Ok this is just somthing that had been bothering me and yea I know I have made this mistake also. They are called Wheels not Rims. Tires go on wheels and the tire is held in place by the rim on the wheels. So when people say i want to get some 18" Rims they should say I want some 18" wheels.

Just had to let that out.

i think that people just say rim b/c that's the diameter of them i.e. 18" rim (being from one side of the rim to the opposite side) i dunno. who cares how they say it, we still know what their talking about. >>

no the tire goes on the wheel
the rim is just the lip on keeps the tire from coming off the wheel

no.. lips are lips and rims are rims... that's why when you to to tirerack.com they call them machined lips and not machined rims..

Anthrax is a disease , but in most circumstances that name is made in reference to the bacterium that causes it, much like anything else that has been shortened to make reading, writing and pronunciation easier on the hands, eyes , and mouth. The same would go for calling rim > wheel i believe , its has fewer letters and and can be less mistaken for other words like reel, real, will, whilst, well, especially if someone is newer to english. Give it some and Webster might an addition to their book. >>
