For some reason i think my car will accelerate faster with my overdrive turned off. It seems to go faster and have more power when sitting in lower gear. I have an automatic and when its turned off i sit at 3k rpm in 45 mph when i usually are at 2k with overdrive. has anybody played around with it? its like when im in bad traffic i shift to lower gear or turn off the overdrive.

Overdrive (when off) doesn't allow the automatic transmission to engage 4th gear. This helps when overtaking or towing up a hill. I prefer ECT mode for better acceleration at lower speeds.
us USA guys dont have a ect button.
But over drive is ment for fuel economy. Saving fuel and accelerating faster dont go together.
i turn mine off when i wanna make car feel and drive faster too but gas mileage is a mph lower than with it on.
in us ect is built into the ecu, it engages depending on throttle position.

Overdrive in automatic transmission is for driving in high speeds. In 5 speeds, the gears are usually engineered for somewhat of acceleration, and not top speed. And automatic gears are taller to accomodate the lack of 1 gear. Hence why automatics are slower, next to the drivetrain loss, and you don't get the annoying 4.5K RPM driving on the interstate.
turn off overdrive and it lets the car wind the gears out more giving more power...in turn u loose gas millage the end.
