Did I get the wrong struts? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #25924 9 posts Started by ScoobyDood
you got 2 rears and 2 front inserts, seems right to me...if you have a gt(s), u meant need to go to a junkyard and get st front struts so you can take out the insert and put the new one in. My GT fronts were sealed.
Thats how my struts were, get a vise and some channel locks and get to work.

So I don't need to hit the wreckers? lol

nope. You just need to take the strut cartridge out of the housing and drop the new cartridges in (for the front struts).

Edit: Might check out this thread

i was just saying my fronts were sealed over so there was no way of prying them open, maybe torch the seals but i wasnt gonna risk anything.
Hmm, so I guess the best thing to do is take my front apart and go from there >smile.gif> Sounds like you guys are dealing with two types of struts, possibly factory and factory replacements. But I'll probably take it apart tommorow and check it out.

Same thing happened to mine. We couldn't unscrew the cap with the vice and plumbers wrench so we took it to a friends shop and he torched them out. But before even torching them he drained the oil first, then torched the shock to get it out. Only took him about 20 min each. But like LewFX said, their sealed in there pretty tight.

I have pics of my install if you need them. There should actually be some already existing in recent topics for Tein S-Techs and Kyb installs here in the suspension forum.

Speaking of strut replacements, has anybody ever used Dorman strut mounts? They're significantly cheaper than even KYB, and as far as I can tell are the same as what's out there.
