Auto->manual swap - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #26046 10 posts Started by Toad
Hey everyone, i'm just curious about the auto to manual swap. I noticed the DIY on the site but i'm wondering how difficult it will be to do the swap yourself, and also how much time and money it will take for all the parts aswell. Its something i'm hoping to do b/c i'm sick of driving my automatic =/.

owner off a 95 celica st... hoping overtime to be 1 kick ass machine =).Upgrades (comming soon)- 3sgte engine swap- small engine tweaks here and there- new paintjob (black w/ overlay of blue pearl)possible future upgrades- gt4 hood/bumper- upgrade the 3sgte turbo.
parts will cost you $750-$1000

If you do it yourself, then thats it. I had mine done by a trans shop and it cost me ~$1000 in labor.

Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it...
Cost me $600 to do my swap. I did it myself, as long as you source the parts from a junkyard and can get good prices on the stuff it should cost close to the same.
the question is.. with the swapped tranny can you do 3sgte and have no problems? or thats out of the question?

Not with that tranny. Here's the thing: doing an auto/manual conversion on a car and keeping the stock engine is LOT of work, for not a lot of return. On the other hand, if you're doing an engine swap anyway and you convert it then (3SGTE swap), then it's TOTALLY worth it, because you have to pull the engine and tranny out anyway, and then you have tons of room to work, and so on. So if you're planning a 3SGTE swap, just do it then.

At my shop I only charge an additional $400 including parts and labor for the auto/manual conversion when it's done *with* an engine swap.
