The reason I ask is because my friend was thinking of converting his Celi to RWD.
Does the GT-4 & a 94 ST have the same chassy? - 6G Celicas Forums

yeah rwd would be even harder than awd, because you would have to actually custom fabricate a whole new engine support system, wireing harness, rear differential and a mounting area for it, rear and front suspension, and not to mention things like power steering, shift cables, and etc... the easiest way i can think of would be to get a full drivetran and core supprot of both motor/tranny and rear diff. from an AE86 and use that, thats the only car i can think o that has a 3sgte in a rwd setup, or well i should say i know of that has been done by an individual, i know supras have had 3sgte's with rwd trannys in jgtc, but that doesn't count cuz they have custom trannys anyways, i don't know what teanny the ae86 3sgte swappers use but i do know that it exsist
but either way, rwd or awd, it would be very time and money consuming. but would def be something pretty unique when its done. thats why i plan on doing it.
so to conclude this post i think you should not do it, otr tell your friend he should not do it, because of the time and money involved and the fact i want to be the first in the states to do it

Give me a PM I have a ton of info, i'm working on the RWD swap and have a majority of the parts picked out (money is the only thing stopping me now), first off i'm using a number of Supra parts so it's going to run me about $20,000 doing the labor myself, but i'm rebuilding the 3SGTE. As far as the JGTC or Super GT Supras with the 3SGTE, a lot of them use the factory Getrag mainly because it's been able to handle up to 1,200 hp stock, the only reason they would consider switching it is for a different gear ratio, BTW a Getrag from Toyota will run a nice $6,000 without the spacers, snap rings and other goodies to make it work.
No they don't have the same chassy ? I disagree, engine mounts are different for ST and GT but the body itself is the same for a ST and GT, pretty sure of this . .

Thanks for the replys. If it were myself, RWD wouldn't be an option but my friend has a good payin job & friends that are crazy enough to try.

Sounds like he has the key req. for the task. best of luck if he tries it.
anyway I think that the gt and gt-4 have the same chassy just somewhat diff, (drive shaft holes and some mounts) I dont think that it would be to hard, but AWD is (in my opinion) far better and probibly much easyer to convert too.

Engine mounts are different but the frames are the same, the st even has places pre-marked for the gt mount. I would bet that the GT has the same thing for the ST mount. The GT-4 is not the same as the st, or gt. It is a beefier frame.

The only reason it would be beefier is seam welding, which from what I can tell is actually done on the GT, I don't know about the ST.
