Projectors and clear high beams - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #26737 37 posts Started by jgreening
Well, I received my projectors and clear high beams Friday along with most of my other GT4 front facia parts. I was stunned at how nice they look in person.

I didn't realize the clear high beams do not come with bulbs. Do the stock bulbs work? Are there other options? I did some searching and I am new to the terminology. What is H.I.D? One thing I know is that I want clear bulbs.

Also, how important is it to do the projector LHD modification? When I looked at the how-to and Doggy's thread about it, I am not sure I could tell a difference between the before and after pictures.

What else do I need to get these beautfiful pieces operational? I read I need a wiring harness for the projectors. Are there bulb options for the projectors too? Anything else?

Thanks folks. I love this forum.

from what i've heard in the past the highs use the same bulb as before. i've also heard that if u don't do the mod your going to be blinding people comin up to you cuz the projectors are brighter..

stock high bulbs work, or if u want u can get different ones.
PIAA, Streetglow, Eurolite, Silverstar...whatever.

H.I.D. is about $300-$400 for a kit. Longer lasting bulbs, brighter bulbs.
If u r out at night and see the newer luxury cars with the bright azz blue or purple lights, thats H.I.D.

i didn't know there was a how-to to mod it from RHD to LHD. Mine r fine right outta the box.

for the wireing harness i used an H4 female connector and just popped out the top connector.
Bout $4 at autozone for the pair.

U can get any H1 bulb for the Low projector.

Im running streetglows and they put out a nice white light.

Sent you a PM about HIDs.
Well it is a major difference the shot of the lights modified or not. Believe me. I made the shots >smile.gif> But if if you have a 12 volt transformer hook the light up to that and you will see what the problem will be.

The lights are made for RHD cars. So the beam is cut off in the wrong place. The should be cut off in the Left instead of the right. So now you will blind other drivers and that can be dangerous and can cause accidents.

If you need any other help regarding the conversion PM me.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am at work right now or I would just look. After briefly looking at the lows last night, I thought they came with bulbs. Is this not the case?

u guys got bulbs?
i didn't.
i got the 2 prong connector that the bulb plugs into.

Ow. Well my contact was very good. He also delivered the complete wiring harness + bulbs for my JDM Tail lights. Instead of another dutch toyota parts dealer from which Fietsbel had his JDM tails from.

So maybe i am just lucky with the parts dealer. But the first thing i did was replacing the standard bulb with a Philips Blue Vision bulb!

Mine came with stock bulbs.

I saw someone reccomended Nokyo Artic Stage II's, which I got for like $17/pair, and have been impressed.

RHD->LHD wasn't hard, I did it Thursday night on mine. Definetally do it if you are going HID or a bright bulb.

Stock Hi's, 9006.

If anyone needs interior stuff, etc, I'm parting whats left of my celi out. Just ask.
J you can use your stock bulbs with the high beams. As many of you have already stated the low beams need an H1 and you need a special pronged connector which you can find at a autoparts store I believe.

HID is high intensity discharge if you havent already been told. Its not cheap and you need a ballast to ignite the bulbs. Its quite stunning but you cant do high/low w/o having 2 kits for the celica because there are 2 bulbs, not that you'd need HIDs in high beams anyways. I can show you pics of my setup if your interested in HID.

Has anyone fitted a HID kit into their projector low beams? I'm curious as to how that works, because I know that adding HID kits to a lot of cars with projectors and halogen bulbs from the factory does not work well, because the projector unit itself was designed for a halogen bulb.

New Toyota project coming soon...

Also, I'm note sure if anyone mentioned this- you can use the side-marker lights in the "accent" bulb on the low beams. You have to shave off a little bit of plastic to get them to fit in, but its pretty easy. Thats only if you want though...

Anyways. Best of luck. And when you get them hooked up, you will see the severe problem of the RHD lights. As soon as I get a free weekend, I'm trying Kadett's mod (thanks for writing it man!)

Always a pleasure!!!

is it actually worth it to Modify ure JDM Projector Headlights for LHD Use or coudn't you just adjust it and it should be ok
Like already said a dozen times. You can and probably will blind oncoming traffic. And that can be dangerous. So you can adjust them down but i think that dangerous too because you will have a less lit road in front of you.

Its your choice!

I have now read all the guides, and have kinda gotten cold feet for this mod.
The Idea of thrashing projectors for 700dollars Isn't that tempting to be honest. =/

RHD conversion kit
Is this a good solution, or will It chance the visual looks on the projector?

A sticker like that shoudl be used on the outside of the glass. So thats always visible. Its really not that hard to do, if you use the boiling water methode you wont risk anything. Except when you drop to light out of your hands of course smile.gif

bringing this back from the dead...FLAME ON!!!... biggrin.gif

can i use a heat gun instead of the boiling method? cuz i dont have a pot big enough for the projectors to go in
Has anyone done a complete conversion?
Not only making the lights flat. but angling It the right way aswell?
Like the light angle Is supposed to be In europe.

Well in fact another Dutch Celica member has perfected my LHD conversion method.

It's in dutch but the picture tell everything. If not I can translate it.

Wow, that looks very neat.
Think Im going to buy a dremel next pay check then ;D.
I can't wait to get home and try this stuff out!!
I am so stuck at the moment, been to autoshops.
And noone can find the connectors I need, for the low beam lamps, none of them. I've even been to the local toyota store.
Where did you guys find them?
