I got a hookup for 98-99 steering wheels. No airbags though. If you buy the airbag the wiring is interchangeable with the 94-97. If you want one their 150 plus shipping. Im buying one for me. Theres 3 more available. They look so much sportier then the 94-97 steering wheels.
FS: (3) 98-99 Steering Wheels - 6G Celicas Forums
Yeah... so how does that work with airbags? have to buy a new one or can't use the one already in my car?
~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207
The one already in the car won't work, because it's made for the four-spoke wheel. The '98+ wheel only has three spokes.
New Toyota project coming soon...
Sorry to say... but that's a lot. The 98-99 Steering wheel is the same as the 7th gen... and 7th gen steering wheels can go as low as 20-30 dollars for the standard GT vynil one... or up to 50-100 for the GTS Leather wrapped one. Even TAP, which is known for their very expensive stuff, only sells the leather steering wheel for 75.00 + shipping last I checked with them. I personally got mine for 50.00 something shipped... but yeah...

Find me a 98-99 for a 100 bucks and i will be the first to buy it. The 7th gen bolts up, but you cant use the airbag. I have been looking forever for a 98-99. There rare, and nobody on the site has came up with one. I have yet to see one go for under 200 on ebay. The 7th gen will bolt up but the airbag cant be wired for use on the 6th gen due to the extra wires for the side airbags. The 98-99 will wire right up to a 94-97 harness, so if you want a airbag, thats the way to go. Im not keen in not having a airbag. You are going to need a 98-99 airbag since there different.
Now if you can find me a 98-99 for a 100 Kwanza, I'll jump on it. The airbag wiring on the 7th gen was the only thing that kept me from buying your wheel you were selling a while ago. I wanted it though, but i need that airbag.

an airbag only increases your chance of survival in a collision 5-10% over just using your seatbelt. How much is that worth is completely up to you.
Oh and aren't the airbags like $500?

Heh... I wasn't talking about airbags and that's not even part of the discussion... but whatever. The 3 spoke 98-99 Steering wheel is the same thing as the 7th gen steering wheel minus the airbag. And are you sure about the 98-99 airbag simply plugging into the 94-95 harness? Don't guess unless you *know* for sure. I would imagine they do NOT, because most of the harnesses were completely redone between OBD1 and OBD2...
Anyway... didn't mean to sound rude... but just call TAP recycling... Their leather steering wheels will typically sell for less than 100.00...

Theres suppose to be straight plug into the airbag computer module. The guy selling them told me has rebuilt at least convertibles and has switched the wheels on them. Hes also a salvage dealer. I called around and found a leather 98 for 100.
Im going to jump on this instead of mass buying the 3. Thanks for all you guys help. I'm finally getting the wheel i want >

I, personally would not like a Sparco because it's not Toyota or TRD or anything of the sort. But I still see the 98-99 and 00-05 Celi steering wheels as VERY different. I mean, the 7GC wheel is so much more modern-looking.
-JoKeRkId613+Jul 21, 2005 - 11:30 PM
That's probably because you don't realize the airbag and steering wheel are two different parts. The actual wheel is the same thing more or less... only the airbag designs are different.

Does anybody know if the part numbers are the same? Are the internals the same where the airbag bolts on?
