Hey guys, i was wondering how much it would cost to mold a body kit onto the car, or if anyone in south florida knows how to do it, or how hard is it to do? Because my friend (punch) has a friend who will paint my car for $1200, but to do the molding and everything he said $2500, im thinkin I could probably do it myself, from what i hear its not that hard, i just need some advice/help from some1 who knows what there doing. ummmm 2500$ to mold, prep, paint IS NOT BAD!
up in va its like 4500$ for just a paint....and a 2 month turn around.....

but molding does take time and concentration.....
you can do it 2 ways in my opinion...

1st is sand it all down and then put 2layers of fiberglass mat over the joint this will hold your fenders to your fender and your bumper to your body...it reduces the chances of cracking from there its pretty much all bondo work....layers at a time...put some down sand it smooth to the curve and just work at it till its seamless.....

its rather difficult cause you have to get the bondo work to flow the lines of the car and get an even transition.....best left to professionals and not first timers

everyone has to start somewhere right? as you know playr I dont have $2500 to spend right now, and he said he would paint my car for $1200, so im thinkin I have to know somebody who can do it/help me and I could save alot of money.

$2300 for new paint+gold ice pearl+ shaved wing+ fitting all body parts+fixing front bumper+2 week turn around+ baked on paint to soothe my parents >>

$1000 for scratch & bump fixing, body kit fitting & moulding and painting (incl. paint and stuff). Cheap but when one looks at average monthly salary around here (~$700) - it is still expensive.

$2500 for fully molding the body kit and paint is a really good price.

I decided not 2 do the molding, I talked to 3 very reputable shop owners, and all of them said whenever u mold the fiberglass to metal, eventually something is going to crack over time from little bumps or whatever. They said its an easy fix for the crack, but dont do the molding unless you have the extra money laying around. Im still thinkin of doing it tho.

eh i have/had a fully molded kit and i ran into a few curbs ect....stepped on my rear bumper ect...... never cracked why? because i have goo mounting so that it won't move.....imo its good to rivet the bodykit inplace and then mold you never use just a mold to hold a kit on as most people know.........but i mean i havn't experience a crack yet so we'll see

Yeah I haven't had a problem with cracking either. I did like playr did and bolted it up first the fiber glassed it up then some bondo and your good to go. I drove my car all winter and nothing has happened at all, and thats with the doing donuts every couple days when it snows. If you do it right it wont crack just don't half a$$ it and you will be fine.

s long as its done right.. the onl problem u may have is cracking in the front due to viration... other then that ull be fine

lol.. Maaco in Texas is 650 for total repaint and full clear coat + a fixment of my front bumper >>

talk about cheap eh!

My buddies only charged me 1300 to Mold, repaint, and change color including door jams. and they did awesome

ya i guess i will just bolt it down first, then have them fiberglass over where the bolts are and then mold it down. We will see tho, i still gotta save up some money

If your going to mold a bodykit on, I would suggest also molding the gap where the fender joins the pillar of the roof (not sure what it's actually called). It tends to get overlooked. Just my 2 cents.

do not mold that part.. becuz if u ever have to remove the fender or if that cracks, u have to repaint a larger portion of the car, then if it was just a part of the body kit


edit: i molded my whole bodykit, take it from me, its not a good idea.

I molded and screwe/riveted in my complete rear bumper. My car is too low, and I am going to be raising it again soon. My rear bumper is cracked at places due to dragging all the time. I drag on a daily basis. it sucks. I will not repair it until I lift the rear end. Wish i had money for airbags!
