Anyone have any basic tips on what to say in court when trying to "get out" of a speeding ticket? (pleading guilty but hoping for a reduced sentence) TY
Your honor...sir...depending on who is speaking...maybe ma'am.

basically it depends on the cop that gave you the ticket. in most cases the cop will talk to you before hand, at least thats what I have encounterd. I've only had two tickets that counted one was for my tail light which was dismissed when i showed them i replaced the bulb, the other was a speeding ticket. Of course i went with my grandfather who is a lawyer and he plead it down, but before you actually go into the court the cops are usually "lurking" around. My grandfather pulled him to the side and they negotiated the ticket. 80 in a 55 down to no seatbelt- fine, no points >smile.gif>

I never plead guilty to anything - innocent untill proven guilty- PLUS if you are going to court on it then you must have plead not guilty, if you plead guilty then you just sign the back of the ticket and send it in with a check for the fine.

If this is your first speeding ticket then you should be able to talk them down, just dont act cocky or anything, that will get you no where. tell the officer this is your first ticket, you usually dont speed, it wont happen again, BS like that might help. I go all out on this **** because, well thats my job lol >rolleyes.gif>

Here in MD, I'm on a provisional lisense:
* Convictions for moving violations while holding a provisional license will require:

1. The completion of a driver improvement program for the first offense.
2. The suspension of the license for up to 30 days for the second offense.
3. A suspension or revocation of the license for up to 180 days for a third offense.

I got into a minor fender bender that need not be reported a long time ago but my dad didn't understand that, so he told the cop to report it. I didn't go to court and went to drive improvement class.

About a year ago, I got a speeding ticket. I didn't go to court and got suspended for 30 days (didn't know that was going to happen @ the time).

On the 5th, I got a speeding ticket. I'm going to go to court to @ least try and lower the amount of days.
