Okay, i've decided on buying a 6th gen. The things that I am for sure getting as soon as i get the car are :
Body Kit, probably veilside
Rims
Exhaust/Intake
Sound System
Spoiler
Okay now here is my question. I understand that If i wanted to build the car, the GT would be alot better. But there fairly rare.. How tough is it to build an ST? Anything i need to know about?
its not really that hard. just get some parts for a custom turbo if thats what you want. umm....or a cai. or something
s-afc, plug wires, etc
i didn't think the gt was rare. but when it comes to cars you can do anything if you have the time and the money.

Speaking as a ST owner I would definitely rather have spent another couple months and found myself a GT. Unless you really really enjoy working with cars, spending time working on mods like rear drum to disc brake converstion etc. I would look harder for a GT.
STs have weaknesses you need to know about:
- Drum brakes in the back
- Pathetic engine in comparison to the GT
- Many parts are not designed for in (Injen Intake, JDM taillights) and involves more work to make these work
- I believe GTs are leather while STs are cloth
- Moonroof
That's all that's coming into my head right now, but, yea, obviously any Celica is sweet but GT is sweeter right off the bat;)
not all gt's have leather seats, but they can come with it. same with the moon roof, cause my car has neither
94 celica GT90 Civic Si
Also, you can put JDM tail-lights on a ST. They work on any hatchback. >

STs have the same engine as a corolla. U can actually find a decent amount of stuff for the 7afes. But the best mod for a ST would be swapping in a 4agze
hey dude, be patient but get GT...
comming from a owner of ST, who actually wants to go fast, ST is really slow...
sure you can do bunch of crap to it, but it's still ECONOMY engine found in such
cars as Geo...
I was actually thinking about finding a BLACK 94-95 (obd1) - GT so I can just swap my bodykit
and all my mods, and then sell the ST....
BUT right now i'm not doing that since my company gave me Infinity G35.....2003 baby...
so as i said, be patient and get GT (black/silver are my favorites outside, black cloth only inside)
Dont' even worry about the power yet. You've got the jackable good$hits wanting to be snatched or banged with. Actually, why don't you get a fackin honda.
I have a sun/moonroof and I have an ST. Only reason I'd want a GT is that it'd make a 3sgte swap easier..and possibly awd with a hatchback. Otherwise, both cars are slow enough that the difference between them probably isn't earth shattering.
I find that the gt feels more like an actual sports car as opposed to an economy car. I also think that the gt handles better (dif. suspension) and the gt definately feels like it has alot more power especially off the line.
go with the gt

I think that the GT models with the sport package handle better, but I don't think that most GT models handle better than the ST models. Without the sport package, the suspension is the same, and the GT has .4 liters of displacement over the ST, therefore having more weight to toss around in corners. Generally, the GT has more options than the ST as well.

I'm an ST owner, and I never once wished I had a GT. You'll never miss the extra 20hp. They look the same, handle the same(except for the small amount of weight the GT engine adds), have the same interior(other than the GT leather option, both have the upgraded sound option).
The only major difference is the rear disc brakes on the GT, which can be had for less than $500 if you take the time to learn how to install them.
For me, I just love owning a 6th gen liftback. It doesn't matter if it's ST or GT.
I have a moon/sunroof
I can get the rear disc conversion easy(i do all the work myself)
I just saw a corrla with the 7a fe engine pushing 250 whp
Other then the extra 20hp st and gt are the same
