Fun drifting cars - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #28183 29 posts Started by bloodrain
well guys, im lookin for a cheap car to hook up for drifting, I dont have alot of money to spend (somewhere around $3000) for a stock car. I know 240sx's are popular, but what else is there thats cheap. Keep in mind im not going for a 350z or anything like that, just basically a car if my engine blows, i couldnt care less.

Try an older bmw 3 series.. the 89 style 325i would be awsome, better handleing then 240 and 168 hp rwd. and very nice trannys. Butt more expensive to mod and mantain.. but imo better looking and more rare.
hmm..

MKI or MKII Supra, AE86 or AE92 corollas, 300zx, 1st gen mr2, 85-89 200SX turbo, 4th gen AllTrac 4WD Celica

to name a few..

hmm, forgot about the good ol supra's....

i would say go for the 85 supra's.. they have a turbo and parts are easy to find.
jus get a 240 if ur looking cheap.. as long as they dont have body rust buy em cheap cause ur gonna change the whole car anyways.. make sure ur suspension is set up right other wise ur gonna mess something up
mkII supras are fun to drift, easy to. What ever u do, dont go MKIII, they are almost 50/50 weight balance, but they r just heavy as hell. U could even go second gen RX-7, its a bit harder to push but its still cool. I say if u wanna start drifting and u wann du somethin original, El Camino(good weight distribution) or an old Datsun 510 and swap a SR20 in it. They go like hell and a half and r soo small its easy to get em sideways.

skylines - styling by leggo

skylines are:
1) WAY to expensive
2) ugly as hell
3) no matter what you do 2 them they are still ricers.

A 240SX isn't a ricer?

That's a Skyline.

Either way, a ricer is a person, not a car, and Skyline is not rice.

I want a geo as a back up car, there dirt cheap. and get good gas milage, well unless that is if it has a swapped in motor, that puts out 250hp to the wheel >biggrin.gif>

let me put it this way then, a skyline is an expensive ricer that is highly over rated. And it depends on how you do the 240, yes it can be very ricer looking, but if dont right it looks pretty nice.

seems like you are jumping from one extreme to the other. skylines are not a godly creation as often percieved in the US nor are they ricer (all looks, with nothing to back it up). never driven one personally, but from what I understand their reputation is not completely unwarranted

yea right Tim, the 240Z(i think 240 and not 280) is very rare and a pain to get at a good price.
(with no rust)

Good luck finding one of those, go for an FC.
I'd like to get ahold of a 84-85 rx-7. The GLX's came with the fuel injected 13B in those years. That would be a fun car.

if hes going to be drifting it, no rust shouldnt be a necessity, and i dont see how theyre that rare, i know of 6 people locally with them 1 is even sitting in our parking lot at our frat house up at school, i see them all the time.

after i said that i saw one sell on ebay for a good price, but it had bad rust...
i was just under the impression that one of those Zs was rare to get in great condition
The cheapest way to drift is with an american car usually, look for an old Buick Regal (really cheap)
Firebird/Camaro (torque monsters and good handling on the '93+ models)
Caprice (good suspension and an LT1 in most plus a good starter car)
Mustang (they are really good for sliding around corners due to the crappy suspension)
Monte Carlo SS (alright power + RWD)

All of these cars can be found for less than $2,000 (exc. Caprice and '93+ Firebird/Camaro and '94+ Mustang, they're still less than $5,000 though) they have alright out of the box power and torque, and parts, repairs, and maintenance is much cheaper.

Oh man, there is a like a 82-4 not sure Celica GTS sitting at my gramps house. Its green and looks like the AE 86, but much more nicer looking because the trunk of the car isn't rounded, but more like our 6Gs. Its just sitting there!! Soon to get a picture!
lol..yea..that would work, just get a LSD, they come with a crappy LSD that isnt as good as a full LSD. Im thinkin of pickin up a Corolla GTS. There r a few guys around my area with them for like $4000-6000..theres one im lookin at for just over $6000 with new paint, and a Silvertop swapped.
