7a-fe Internals - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #28222 15 posts Started by punkrocknurmama
Ok. I've got a 97 celica with the 7a-fe engine. It's a high milage engine, but it was been taken care of since birth.. haha. Anyway, I earn for more power but don't have the resorces or time for a 3s-gte swap. On the other hand, turbocharging is a very reasonable idea.. My question concerns the strength of the 7a internals. How much boost can they handle? Would it be a good idea to rebuild the engine with forged internals before turbocharging? What would be the best way to supply the extra needed fuel for the boost? Thanx for any help, I'm a little new with the aftermarket.

If you guys cant answer this with out using the word search dont post.

Thanks
DEF

I will return one day.
it really depends on how much boost you want ... if your going to keep it under 10psi then you should be fine... and if you rebuild the motor run it for about 10k miles before you install the supercharger.... look around the old threads... i'm sure all the questions you have have beenn answered and if not post again .. some one on here will give you an answer sooner or later.

i have the stock internals on my 7afte and at 8PSI it runs fine. if u want more then that u have to go forged because the rods are too weak. and even with forged internals only plan on 15 lbs of boost cuz the cranks in the 7A's arnt that great.
Thanks for the help. A few more questions real quick. I don't have dreams of a demon street car or anything like that. I'm looking to run around 175hp on the street. What kind of boost will it take to get there? Can the stock internals handle that? The 105 hp merely don't hold it's own against the cars in this area...

look in the how to section i wrote up one on turboing a 7afe my old kit is now on StreetRacing10PSI's car now if you have anymore questions on this just pm me and look in my 7agte build dairy there you will see a built 7a bottom end

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte

agreed, the 7a crank is a manly man to say the least. it has larger journals and such than a 4agze... and I have seen them make over 400whp.

i wish they would have made an 8 bolt crank (4ag) instead of a 6 (7af) but all in all its a really good crank

yea, but from the looks of the block, it's not going anywhere. I do, however, agree with you. Probably make you sweat less when cranking up the boost for that dyno run. >wink.gif>

Don't the 1UZfe engines have six bolt mains? (this is a random question.

Ok fellas. Thankx for all the help. I just had one more question. I know that a lot of people on this board don't like the idea of nitrous. I was never partial to n2o myself.. but the big question is why? If the 7a-fe can handle 8psi reliably, then why not a 50-shot of nitrous? It's about the same hp gain isn't it? From what I read, the rods and crank are the weak points of the engine.. but wouldn't those parts be under the same pressure with n2o as they would with 8psi? Thanks
its not just pressure its the chemical reaction....the physics of it is totally different
you wanna see 7afe with No2

then go to the little search button on the top right of the screen click it
type "7afe laughing gas" look at the picture
turbo cars its a build up to power

nitrous injected cars its all that power at once and for how ever long you hold the button

a safe nitrous system HAS the wot triggers and safety items which is the way to go also you need fuel mods different plugs and dyno time to make sure your A/F is where it needs to be.

dont just buy a half @ss kit off ebay strap it on and hit the button in first gear at 2500 rpm

now if you get a good kit dyno everything there is still the possiblity it can ruin your motor the 7afe pistons are not the greatest so now you get into internal mods which IMO is the safest way to run Nitrous a mild built motor with rods pistons and fuel mods and way to control it all
