QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
you should let me try the engine out first, make sure it works ya know. lol. Good luck with it. Your taking me cruising when your done
Nice to hear, good luck and have fun with it =)

~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207
thanks jaws...and everyone else...what can i say...im alil bit of a perfectionist..and when there is going to be a projec tthis big...i want it to be the best and thats why i sprung for the 3rd gen and thats why i want the body to be in show room condition with all the gt4 body parts plus more....
I thought that 3rd gen. 3sgte is illegal in US due to emission restrictions?
Anyway, can't wait to see it finished.

'94 ST202 - tuned, highly apprieciated, but sold.'99 ST205 - imported, legalized, Stage 1 completed. For slow driving: Yamaha XVS650 Drag Star. The most recent addition to the family and for the family: Toyota RAV4 2.0 VVTiCelica-ClubPoland-Everything you want to know about your favourite car ... in Polish
Is that true???
Yup. Thats the reason why in the US the GT came with the 5S-FE engine and the GT4 wasnt released at all.
JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
I thought it wasnt released in the US becuase the 5th gen alltrac started to bomb around 92' 93'...but im certainly not denying that it wouldnt pass..emissions
most 3sgtes, 2nd or 3rd gens will probably fail emissions.... it dosnt help that a lot of swap owners run with no cats and 3in exhausts.
i wouldnt let that stop you from swaping. there is always a shop somewhere that will hook you up with an emissions sticker.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
or if you drive under a certain amount of mileage per year you dont even needit
Theres an Indian county up here in WI called Oneida and apparently you can register your car there and they dont have emissions...so im gonna give that a whirl but yeah...im not gonna let emissions stop me
P.S. Does anyone have a rough guess at how many 3rd gen 3sgte are in this country?? JC

Tailpipe emissions a JDM engine will pass -- if anything, Japanese standards are tighter than North American ones.
Where you get stuck is in the visual inspection. North American pollution controls all include an exhaust gas recirculation system of some kind, a valve or hose. Japanese engines use a different emissions control setup, so wouldn't pass visual. And in areas where you're not allowed to swap in engines that were never certified by the local standards (e.g. California and CARB), you're also stuck.
Check the local laws...

There are quite a few in the MR2 community (I would guess 100 or so) but not too many in Celicas....you are a lucky man.
