here in charlotte its known that there will be something poppin on a nice saturday night. last weekend was no different except it was a dyno night. there were alot of nice cars out there! some guy from HIN brought his black emotion nissan z out and there were a couple supras...but what caught my atteniton was a little grey trecel. i go over to one of the dyno operators and ask what engine it is, he says something about a 4e and its a starlett engine swap from japan...uh okay...never heard of a starlett. but anyway, he completes the dyno test and only 110 hp pops up the guy looked pretty disappointed and i was stupified. >

someone please clarify what a starlett engine is because i would expect more out of an engine thats turboed.

Also a st wont put 110hp to the wheels. And the tercel prolly weights less. My guess he would beat an st.

But it prolly needs to be tuned, or the turbo could be bad.

he would rape an st, his car just needed a tuning. your car doesnt make 110 at the wheels more like 80-90 ish... kinda sad, isnt it. gt puts down around 110-117 i think.... i bet if he got that thing tuned it could pull 30 more ponies out of it.

lmao, he'll rape you, a 4efte* has 135hp stock, same torque, tercel's weigh in at the ton mark, some guy around here in raliegh, has a 4efte starlet swap in a 2door tercel, he said he's pushing 180 to the wheels, i believe him, last time he was out there he ran againist, a type r with header intake and exhaust, maybe like a vtec controller too, but he raped it

well then if he beat a ITR it isnt stock because an ITR with H/I/E and a VAFC he must run low 14s hi 13's. not bad for running rich.

stock tercel pretty good tires/clutch, with a 4efte swap should be in the high14's low 15's, boostcontroller, exhaust intake, new intercooler, should easily be able to peirce the low 14's high 13's

wow, you can get tercels for like 1500-2000 for a pretty nice one, 4efte complete swap (engine, trans, ecu harness) might run you 2500 (and thats high), hmm swap'ed tercel, minor mods, new tires, for around $5k be in the high 13's low 14's, nice little sleeper, i doubt any cops would be looking for a tercel lmao, keep the exhaust quite (big resinator)....

sounds like a great little project car, or you could get a paseo, same thing i think there alittle heavier though.........

This idea is similar to the idea that Honda tuners have when gutting a CRX and swapping in a small high output Honda motor in it. Lightweight + Decent Power = A pretty quick little car

idk bonzai, stock turbo, slap a ct26 on there im sure it could fit, get a new intercooler, im sure it could handle 10psi, i think they are stock with 5-6psi, so theres 30-40hp (guessing), exhaust and intake plus 5 more, that'll be like what? 175hp estimated + 2000lb car = easy low 14's with decent tires, and a good driver always helps haha

4efte, its not a 4a... i'd like to think it could handle 10 pounds of boost, i mean, its like a minature 3sgte 2.0L just 1.3L's who knows, they can handle 300+ on the stock engine block, so hopefully the 4efte could handle around or alittle less than 200hp

i know, im just saying its another small turbo engine from toyota, toyota's turbo engines are famous for having strong blocks (3sgte, 2jztte, 1jztte, 7mgte had weak heads but strong block), i'd like to think this is another, just in much smaller form

110 whp out of a 1.3 litre engine is pretty good in my opinion. And if the car isn't tuned like it should on top of that, it should get kinda quick after a tune-up.. Stock ST would probably loose bigtime.

Going a little bit off-topic, but bare with me.. After switching over to German cars I'm shocked how much power they can produce with very little effort compared to alot of Japanese cars. The 01' Audi A4 with a straight 4 1.8 litre turboed engine come with 150 bhp stock. Use a 500$ racing chip and you have like 200 bhp. Add new turbo, IC, header and exhaust and you will get an insane 500 bhp out of that little 1.8 liter engine.

Compared with the AWD-system Quattro from Audi those cars are fast... I'm swapping my 2.0 litre NA motor with a built 1.8T motor and will get about 300 bhp easy. And the thing here.. We are not talking about the fast Audis yet.. We are talking about the slow Audis (ST, USDM GT style).. And for some crazy reason, you can get a 400-600 bhp car street legal in no-time, as long as it's not Japanese.. They seem to favor german cars and american muscle cars around here.

The fast ones come with 4.2 litre V8 twin turbo, 480 bhp stock and AWD.. Or 2.4 litre V6 twin turbo with like.. 350 bhp stock. The streets are crawling with those cars around here.. And parts are all over the place. Both used original parts, and aftermarket support. I guess living close to Germany is an advantage, but still.. I would have a hard time going back to Toyota after this :/

Back on topic. My point is.. ST 116 bhp, 85-90 whp. That car; less weight and 110 whp, probably 125-130 bhp in a 1.3 litre engine.. It's great >

Yeap, that is a GLANZA to be more precise. There are quite a few of those in my country. Some of them with T3 and T4 and can beat the crap out of any Honda out there. Heck some of them beat the crap out of the GT4s. I have seen a couple of them doing high 11s on the quarter mile. I consider it the most bad ass car in its category. Very reliable car for mods.

i still think german cars fall behind in alott of things, like reliablity. after having various benz/bmw's in the family i just wasnt pleased, the second we got a lexus 430... all those problems we had to worry about with the german cars went away. i think its easy to pull power out of any motor. have you dynoed your audi? thats impressive.

i had NO idea what a starlett looked like, i thought about it for a while and did remember hearing about it, but never knew the specs! thanks guys for helping me with my ignorance! (lol at raped) thats MY word!!!!

I haven't dynoed it yet, as I have not swapped the engine yet >

You mention reliability on Mercedec and BMWs.. I have never owned any of those, but I know a ****load of people who do.. And they all have problems. I know without doubt that any Audi will fall apart alot faster than most Toyotas, but compared to Mercedes and BMW I have to say.. Most people I know with Audis hardly have problems (with newer cars! Old cars have lots of problems all the time). So I'm crossing my fingers for the Audi >
