Just got done changing the water pump on the good old 7afe. Now I am running into a major problem. The water is not curculating through the engine.
The radiator is full, and the engine still over heats. The return hose is boiling hot when the engine is warm, while the return line stays cool to the touch. Whats wrong? I got a sugestion to prim the system, how do I do that?

then filling the system, press the hoses, press and relise press and relise, this way you will get the air out of the system. After some pressin you will notice what you are missing cooling fluid in radiator, refill it and do everything again. You will notice then you have full system, cuz water wount be disapiering anythere. And then filling the system turn your AC to hot side, to fully fill the heater.

If what doggy suggested still doesn't work you may check your thermostat. If it's stuck closed there will be absolutely no flow of coolant out of your engine. Personaly the thermostat would be the first thing I replaced.

Yeah man just squeeze out all the air in the tube while its running. Also, rev the engine a little while doing this. Your thermastat should be fine.

How do you know his thermostat is fine? The symptoms he described sure sound like a thermostat problem to me. Besides bleeding the system, which shouldn't be necessary for the Celica according to the BGB, the thermostat is the only thing left besides a major blockage somewhere (God forbid).

its a brand new thermostat, but it could be a factory lemon.

Could be. I don't know if it's possible in the Celica but it may just be in backwards. It may seem dumb but it's a very common mistake.

I had this problem on my MKII GTi. The water pump went out one day and it overheated. When I took it to my shop they replaced the water pump and the thermostat was broken, so they replaced that as well. After they did all that and turned it on it wouldn't circulate. They took the thermostat off and put my broken one on. It circulated fine. They did that several times and to no prevail. I cut my losses and got my Celica.

i dont think our cooling system needs bleeding because air will come out into the overflow tank.

check the thermostat, and check for any signs of coolant in your oil or oil in your coolant.

will do,

i did what doggy suggested, and nothing happened. The coolant is just not curculating. Even with the engine at full operating temperature, I can open the radiator cap without the ussualy explosive hot water. There seems to be no pressure?

sounds like your radiator is pluged.

it does sound like that huh?

but radiators rarely get plugged up. i'll work on it more on monday. Give you guys an update.
