Tornado Fuel Saver - 6G Celicas Forums

I'm going to install one of those into my intake.
It's a rip off. You might as well get the "electric turbo" off ebay while you're at it. A few weeks ago, Edmunds.com did a test to see what helped optimize gas mileage, and this thing had no effect at all.
its a scam ... if sometihg so simple changed fuel milage, it would come stock on every car so that the dealers could sell more cars based on fuel milage

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
You make a great point Lagos! I was kidding anyways... why does this Turnado thing always pop up...
if you put on in your sink .. it makes a really cool sucking noise and the water does go down the drain faster....

Wait... if you think about it... it doesn't even make sense logically.

"Install the Tornado Fuel Saver in the air-intake of your vehicle for better gas mileage and increased horsepower! The Tornado Fuel Saver is an automotive air channeling tool that creates a swirling air motion, allowing the air to move faster and more efficiently by continuously whirling air around corners and bends. "

When did increasing HP ever increased fuel efficiency? HP and fuel efficiency have an inverse relationship.

If more air = better gas mileage... then who needs hybrids, everyone get turbo!

they say it cuts down on frictional drag... kinda like using light weight pullys.... the engine doesn't have to work as hard.

This, however, I don't think would work because all the angle changes and the butterfly on the throttle body straightening out the air and keeping it from spiraling. If you cut spiral rifling into your runners on the intake however... I could see that helping a bit more than this. >smile.gif>
i think it's funny how, up until about a year ago, this was the "tornado horsepower generator!" and, now that fuel prices have gone up, they've changed their tune.

caveat emptor

Yes, this is a scam! They did a story on this on abc news. 7 on your side.
They said you can achieve the same effect if your car just goes for a standard tuneup!
I wouldn't say its a total scam because it does work. I bought it a year ago and installed it into my stock celica and even though I didn't feel an increase in horsepower, I did get a couple more miles per tank. Except, the gain in MPG is so minimal that I wouldn't say its worth buying. I drive highway most of the time too so that may have soemthing to do with how effective it is, because supposedly it only works when there's more air going into it. I don't use it anymore because of a CAI now though.
seems like it would be better for a car with a carburetor

why dont u just install a electric leaf blower >biggrin.gif> w/ some nawwwzzz.

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.
>mad.gif> Everything you see on the "Like on TV" commercials are a complete rip-off and scam! The cold Solder works like a piece of crap, the pop-a-dent don't pop squat and this tornado ain't gonna send you to heaven! >mad.gif>
Popular mechanics did an issue on fuel savers. The tornado was one of them. If i remember correctly they actually lost like 10 peak hp and noticed no change in fuel mileage.
Leaf blower + nitrous would work well.... i've seen that vid. too blackout! Anyone here wanna try it? >biggrin.gif>

Make that 2. After putting this tornado in, I have tested my average MPG everytime I fill the tank. I gained about 3miles extra each gallon after the test. I tested it many times and some how this thing works, but I'm happy.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

actually increasing power can have a positive effect on fuel effiency. It means you have more power available at lower rpms, thus the car is not working as hard to provide the same amount of power. However that is not how most people drive, so most people wont see this kind of result.

This is why there is actually some benefit from auto racing where they are out to get the most power out of an engine, eventually that tech does trickle down to the consumer (albeit in a lesser form), it does help increase the gas mileage and such.

Really it all comes down to how you drive it

There is some sort of subconscious mindplay going on if you noticed 3mpg increase. You must like expect some difference so you drove the car less hard or something. There's no logical reason for it to work. The throttle body is designed to stop air from sprialing in as someone said earlier, so if you noticed an increase in gas mileage its because you drove the car differently or started driving more freeway miles or something.

You know what.. That is exactly what I thought too. But I drive to school, run errands and that's pretty much all I did. I did this on a 98 nissan 200sx se-r so the results I posted was for that car. Not a 94-99 celica, sorry if that confused you. Well after filling the tank and testing many times I see the same results and I'm very happy. My next test was my parents Mercedes. They drive the car, not me. I only fill up the gas tank for them. I did the exact same tests prior and after installing the unit and it works good. But the thing is I never told my parents I installed the unit. So I don't think they would of driven the car less hard or anything. But again this unit is not for everyone. I tried it because I know the owner of tornado, he's a local guy here in so cali. But if you decide to get the unit and your not satisfied.. Just return it. Good Luck
