still getting the shake at higher speeds.. - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #28839 15 posts Started by Digndoug
Ok.. well I did the brakes, new rotors, new stuf and alignment, It seems to drive a lot better and brake. But I still get the shakes going above 65-70. Im thinking its probley the wheel baring but would that cause it. Also when in the air, the wheel moves a bit, like if i hold the top and bottom theres some play when all the lugs are completley tight. Any other ideas?

Thanks

There not going to fall off, but they could lock up, which is just as bad. Im gunna check it an replace if needed fri or sat.
Could be something simpler -- have you checked the wheels are correctly balanced?
i would say balance to toyota did that to mine before didnt balance my tires right. check it first and is it the steering wheel or the car shaking. my steering wheel started to shake

I would check in this order -
bent rim - check the inside as it`s weaker than the outside of the alloy and more prone to bending.
Bearings - simple check - jack car up, waggle top/bottom. if it moves your bearings are fubar.
Balanced tyres
check your tire pressure. I was having the same problem and I just filled them up to the max lbs on the tire.
what kind of tires do you have? maybe a better tire would help also. i had the same problem, but my rim was bent >frown.gif> its a good thing i had an extra set laying around
Im pretty sure its the bareings.. cause they wiggle or what ever when its jaked up a bit, and def feels dif then the wheels not being balanced, and there good year tires, so good plain wheels.

I might get time to chech it out right. Has any one ever replace dbareings on the celi? I have on my bros rover, but that seems much dif. How hard how long?
Replaced the rear bearings on my`n not 2 weeks ago although might be slightly different for your car, I needed a 2 tonne press to get them back in, pain in the arse...took 3 hours to do, never ever again.
If your wheels seem to shake in mid air its probbaly your tie rods going out the window. Thats the only real explaination in wheels that shake when everything else is perfectly fine.
could be the belts in the tires also they could be seperating... happened to my brothers camry. it just acted like it was limping?? so when u got to about 50 it started to even out and drive pretty smooth. coule do the opposite just trying to give u something to ponder. by the way how much is it does anyone know to get wheel bearings replaced??

Do this: Grab the wheel by the top and bottom (while lifted) and try to move one arm back and the other forward, typically this is a good way of testing wheel bearings, grab it by the sides and wiggle it, typically this indicates a bad tie rod. also roll the tire while in mid air to see if the rim may be bent. if its a bad bearing it'll prolly make a sound at just about any speed, so you might wanna observe that as well
