14" tires - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #29426 10 posts Started by DOODLE
Looking at replacing my stock 185/70/14 tires with sportier tires on the 14" rims. I was thinking about putting 195/65/14 Yokohama AVID T4's.
But, when I called the Tire Rack, they said they could not guarantee them to fit.
Any problems here? rubbing? Suggestions?
Would like larger rims one day.
But with gas prices so high, it's cheaper to just get new tires.
This may be a daft question but what has petrol prices got to do with buying new wheels? Petrol has gone back down in price here now so it wont be long for you guys I`m sure.

Also I didnt know that Toyota put such small wheels on the Celica. If I were you I`d go for a good wheel tyre package and upsize, it sometimes dosnt cost that much more than getting new tyres on there own.
Gas is still expensive here in the states.
My tire budget has been effected by the fill ups.
Just looking for an economical way to be safe and to get rid of the dry rotten tires currently on the car.
And yes, I believe Toyota's original intention for the ST was for commuting. Smaller tire = higher fuel economy.
if you have a 14" rim but have a 65 tires on there.. it comes out to the same size as a 15" rim with a 55 tire .. in gas mileage and speed.

well pretty damn close.. you have to look @ the overall size of the tire and the wheel combined.. a small rim with big tires.. will be the same as a big rim with small tires..

the only thing that would change would be ride quality..
195/70/14.. that's a big tire

so.. BLAH!!

oh yeah forgot to calculate in weight of the rim.. but that's why you buy a nice lighter rim.. plus how much difference can it make..

here's a nifty tool Tire size comparison calculator

This should read "Na Ni na ni na na - gas is still cheap as **** in the states, serves you limeys right for getting the GT4 and not us "
It costs me $100 to fill my tank up here....how much does it cost you??????
Tire Rack can't guarantee anything but the stock size to fit. However, common sense of making sure the overall diametre is the same and the tire width doesn't require a minimum mounting width greater than the 6" width of the stock wheel , you'll be fine.
ss1 celicas came stock with 195/65/14 . So, yes it would be a perfect replacement.
he lives in the US though. US ST's have 14" rims with 185/70/14 tires.
Thanks for the replys! Just following up.
I bought the 195/65/14 Yokohama Avid T4's
I got them mounted on Friday. They went on without a problem.
I then just drove about 750 miles round trip from NJ to Pittsburgh,PA.
They worked great! And, It was pooring like crazy on the way! Did not encounter any hydroplanning at all. Highly recommend these tires.
