CV Joint replacement problems - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #29433 10 posts Started by maxvogel
Last night i had three friends try to help me swap out my cvs and axels but we couldn't figure out how to get the last parts out of either side of the trannie? Any advice would be great.
There is a c clip on the axle inside the transmission, you just have to keep pulling till it pops out, or use something to pry it out (what ended up working for me.) Its a good idea to replace the seals there as well.
i had this happen with a 3000gt tranny, ended up cutting the axle just after the inner knuckle and having a tranny shop pry it out... ended up replacing a synchro or 2 as well. hammer and pry bar wasnt enough >frown.gif>

That's crazy!

You need a good prybar and a hammer. Get the prybar in a good spot and hit the end of it with the hammer. It takes a few tries but it will pop out.

doc's got it, just use a paybar, i use a old fashioned tire iron...its actually what they show in the BGB. a few good whacks usually do it.

One way to do it is tie 2 chains or rope around the part that goes into the tranny. Then make sure that when you pull the slack is equal at all ends of both chain so that the axel pops out equally. HAve fun, took me a while just to pop that thing with a prybar.
well the first tranny came out no problem but the 2nd tranny i got used for 100$ was in great condition but that axle piece... oh well its all in the car now im just waiting for another axle since the 92's dont fit.

Are people sure there isn't a tool for the removal of these parts??? Something to compress the snap ring....

if it is the passenger side... don't forget about that bracket that holdes the bearing... and you need to get it pressed off and on... good luck.. and give it a nice tug and it will come off... have fun
