Would that be a ferrari GTO, a Mitsubishi, or a GM product (be it Holden or Pontiac)

THE Japanese sports car is the R34 nissan skyline followed by a close second in the Toyota Supra of old.
Naw, he said everyone would have to recognize it as a Japanese sports car. I'd say one of the Z cars, any generation.
mitsu gto...but probably not....

im gonna go with datsun/nissan z's...that or the skyline i suppose.

It's definately not the NSX or the AE86...or the ITR...or the S13...possibly the Fairlady or the Supra...however I don't think so on the Supra. I'm gonan go with the Z's.

I'd say the 2000GT for the fact that most automotive purists see it as the ONLY true sportscar to come out of japan until the past 15 years or so...

I disagree because you and I, and about four other people on here are the only ones that know what a 2000GT is.
automotive purists, yeah, but do common ppl see a 2000gt and think its the quintessential japanese car? beautiful car, yes.
fallen who are teh ppl who know about the 2kGT?

I would say for the average person or mom or girlfriend or whatever their definition of a Japanese sports car is like an Integra lol. A girl I work with thinks her Civic is hot stuff. My fiance luckily knows better than that and at least saves her oo's and aahh's for NSX's and Supras.

As for the general public in the USA right now I would say the Skyline (thanks to fast and furious and Need for Speed games). I honestly don't know why the Skyline is idolized so much, I mean sure it's nice but there are so many better cars out there.

if bond . james bond used it .. it had to be a great car... the good father of the supra ... damn i just busted one thinking about one.. that might have been my frist dream car.... >biggrin.gif>

Regardless of what people know, it still dosent change the course of automotive history, in my opinion, even though I do agree the lack of knowlege about the car leads to it being left in the shadows >frown.gif> Most people dont understand the importance of the Morris Mini, Citroen Traction Avant or DS, but they still were pioneeers and revelations that changed the way the industry responded to what a car should be- and thus the credit should be given where it is owed >smile.gif>

That 2000GT is one ugly car, and yes, I have known what one is for several years now. I think everyone that's done a Google search on Celicas and Supras knows about them. But the question was, "What is the quintessential Japanese sports car?" That thing was never even produced in great quantity. C'mon, 2.0 150 horsepower? Please. And no, it's not the first Supra either. The Supra began as a performance Celica.

Here's the stats on the 2000 GT:

Hardly legendary in my opinion since it came out at a time when America was dominated by cars putting out 300-400 horsepower from the factory. The only Japanese car that has competed in the American market over any extended period of time is the Z series, distantly followed by the Celica.

I don't care who you are.. this HAS to be the sexiest car ever

I think that most people can recognize a 280Z. Everything else seems to be that only enthusiasts can pick out (RX-7 GT2K MitsuGTO ect.) The 80's Mitsubishi Starion is a good one too, but a lot of people havent even seen one.

1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of moneyI'm not really an asshole, but I play one on the internet.**** Photobucket
4th - 5th gen celica everyone one knows that car right ?
