I wouldnt pop that needle off. resetting it is a pita.

I will return one day.
well i need to set the odometer forward so i cant do it without removing the plates and the needles.
I ran into this problem too. At the end, I didn't want to remove the needles so I ended up without any gauge clusters.
Doggy, I beleive, gave directions on how to do it. The needle will flex enough to move it past the first stop then you'll have to pull the extension off of the trip odometer reset button then the needle will flex over that while the button is pushed down. Let the needle come to a stop and then mark the postion, take a picture, or make a mental note. When reinstalling the needle make sure that the guage cluster is in the same position as it was when the needle was removed. The orientation of the combonation meter is critical for proper calibration. You can check the accuracy of the speedometer with a GPS and reset the needle's postion according to your findings with the GPS. That is what I did and it works great.
