Exactly. That's what I'm talking about. Hell, I started gathering my parts in late 2002. I didn't know ANYTHING. A childhood friend of mine, who was the one that enticed me to turbocharge the Celica (he turbocharged his '97 Mirage years ago, so he knew a lot already) was the one that told me what the function of each component was, and what to get. I was so confused and overwhelmed at first. It wasn't until mid 2003 that I had a basic understanding of everything. The ONLY help or piece of info I got from the Internet to help me was from Kostas (96 Turbo ST on celica.net), who turbocharged his ST prior to mine, and he was the one that told me that I needed fish tank check valves on the MAP sensor line so it wouldn't read boost. There were no other online write-ups or members with experience turbocharging the 7A-FE, so it was all a mistery and rumor was it could only hold 7 PSI. I think I was the first one in here to break that urban legend and show proof.
Anyway, EVERYTHING else was trial and error with this engine. I cracked a piston ringland at 3 PSI because I didn't know that 550cc injectors were too big for the ECU to be able to control. It shut down the #3 piston, so it leaned out and injured it. Compression was 220-220-80-220. I ran it until the last day of December of 2003 broke like that (it smoked extremely bad, but it ran perfect), and we rebuilt the engine in one night. By then, I knew so much compared to six months prior, it was ridiculous. I have shared A LOT of my experiences here in this forum, for people to benefit from it, and save A LOT of money, pain, and suffering. I don't keep anything to myself selfishly just because I spent the money and trouble. I pass the knowledge on to other people. That's why we're an online community. It's beyond me how new members have the nerve to open a new thread to ask for a compiled list of parts to buy, and a How-To write-up, when the information here is huge and the question has been answered many, many times before. I didn't have NOTHING to help me out, yet, they already have this beautiful website with many experienced people sharing their knowledge and willing to help. They are, however, not willing to answer the same questions over and over again, and DEFINATELY, not willing to write a complete How-To. What, do you want us to buy the parts for you and install the system and take it to the dyno?
