so this is my turbo



its a garett t3. i dont know what the specifications are. i mean i did, but i got it 2 years ago. how can i find out what the specs are? they dont have this particular one on ebay. they sorta do...but the wastegate is internal unlike my external one. i dont know if that would work. like..how would i change the boost? anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. >>

i need a brand new one. im sick and tired of rebuilt ones. this is my 3rd rebuilt turbo and it sucks. >>

actually that pic your showing is an INTERNAL wastegate. the part you see with the arm on it is the wastegate ACTUATOR, its what operates the wastegate.
try www.atpturbo.com for the turbo

Remove the intake pipe, and take the look inside there will be some numbers writen on the inside wall. Do the same on the exhoust side. Then let us know the number. But i bet this will be 42/48 trim. And as i see from the pic - you have the bad clocking of the main part of the turbo - the oil outlet HAS TO BE straight DOWN as much as poible, this might be the problem why you are damaging your turbo, cuz you are cocking some oil inside, and damaging the seals. Oil is not able to get out of the turbo as fast as posible....

doggy: how can i seperate the middle part from the exhaust side. it is sealed on there so tight i couldnt pry it apart. i tried using a vice to tie it down and a mallot to hit the exhaust housing but it wouldnt budge. it looked like something got inbetween and pretty much fused the two pieces together. (yes i did take the bolts and braces off, lol)

Well, on the new turbo you will never have a problem like this... With my old one it was waty too hard to reclock it too....

theres too much oil pressure going to the turbo, thats why u keep popping them

i finally found out the correct size. it is .42/.48. they didnt have any on that www.atpturbo.com site. there is a company on ebay that sells them but the actuator is apparently inside the turbo because there is no hole that my old one has.

The actuator on the one you want to buy must be installed on Header (external WG), your has internal WG.

External WG is more acurate, so if you have some spare $ i recomend you to invest in it >> Just Weld the flange on your header and get the External WG.

do NOT buy an ebay turbo most likely its a crap piece

www.turbocalculator.com
is pretty good on rebuilt turbo's in various trims (would be a good time to up your trim a little more like a 50 or 60)
and it will still bolt up to your existing pieces

are u sure it will still fit? cuz i just had to resell a turbo that was .50/.63 because NOTHING was the same size (cept the exhaust manifold flange) the part that goes between the exhaust housing and the downpipe looked like it would fit bc it was the same shape, but it was too small for that new turbo. >>

well thats cause you upped your exhaust side as well
if you keep a .48 exhaust side you should be fine

so if you want to keep your dp the same
you would want a
garrett T3 50/.48

here is the compressor map (you would be opporating in the red)

icic, im checkin it out right now. will most likely get one from that place. have u had any experience with them? also, whats with the internal wastegate option? are they talking about the price for the actuator or for that extra "hole" in the exhaust housing?

no personal experience from them, but they are rebuilt unit

the "internal wastegate option" you need that (that gives you the internal wastegate as apposed to an external)

so if you go with that company click that option you need an internal wastegate. but a new unit is best

oh and when you get the new turbo make sure you have an inline oil restrictor cause the 7afe puts out too much oil pressure and will damage the turbo

Yeah, the 7AFE oil pressure is too much. I don't have 1000 miles after rebuild on mine and the seal is already saying bye-bye; I saw smoke coming out the other day when I went home. I need one of those restrictor haxx0r thingies. >>

i would like to know this as well. that turbo calculator place must be out of business because their email doesnt work, nor does their check out. i cant find the same turbo anywhere. the only one i found with the same specs is the external wastegate turbo on ebay. i might just go that route but dont know how i would hook up an external wastegate, so if anyone has any pictures of a similar setup that would be great.

soooo....after failing countless times with an internal wastegate controlled turbo. i finally decided to get an external wastegate setup. bought the oil restrictor...bought a brand new t3 turbo with a 35 mm wastegate. now how do i hook it up?? the port and dump holes i got down already. (the closed port faces the exhaust manifold correct?) i have 2 holes on the wg head. one on top and one on the side. i have the mbc from my old turbo. im guessing it goes on the side hole and i leave the top one alone? so say i stick it on the side hole of wastegate. where do i stick the other end of the mbc? am i supposed to tap a hole into the compressor side of the turbo??

my boost controller has a feed on the IC pipe right after the turbo outlet then to the wastegate
