my post swap steering issue - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #29685 20 posts Started by lagos
i thought id make a post about this, since a lot of people that know me, hear me bitching about this from day one.

ever since my swap, my car would pull to one side anytime i would give it gas. im happy to report the problem is fixed now. i swaped over to the correct 5sfe motor mount bracket and installed new motor mounts for the front and rear with the rear one filled with polyurethane, i also found out that my lower control arm was loose. i went out for a drive and all seems well now.... it still slightly drifts to the right when i just let go off the wheel, but its very minor and i think it can be fixed by an alignment. i also still need to test the car at highway speeds.... but so far everything feels great !

Thats great to hear, Art. I was hoping that you would get to the bottom of that eventually so you could enjoy your swap to its fullest.

Bring it up to the Delaware Water Gap meet too, maybe I can get a ride...thats still one of my favorite Celicas. >smile.gif>

great news art, good to hear your back on the right track! >smile.gif>

oh and let me tell u this ...polyurethane motor mounts rock! the best part is that as soon as you tap the throttle, even lightly, you feel the car put your in your seat. also, a lot of the torque steer i was having has been greatly reduced and i get no vibration at idle like i was afriad i would.

did you fill front and back only ?

I will return one day.
i only did the rear mount because i was afraid of my car shaking at idle. it was enought to make a huge difference. since then i talked to somone else to used the same PL polyurethane that i did, and he said he did all the mounts and didnt have any cabin vibration.... so i guess my fear was unfounded. best of all, the poly suff was 4$ at my local hardware store...woot!

i took the car out on the highway today.... oh my freking crap, its so nice to hit the gas and not have the steering wheel jerk to one side. the car felt so unsafe at high speeds before... ill say it again...im so happy its fixed!!!

this bracket is holding my swap up
Did you have to drop your engine to get the passengerside bracket off?
you just have to disconnect that one mount and let the motor sort of hang down to do it. i had a shop do everything for me for cheap
