BEAMS Update (with new pics) - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #29762 13 posts Started by Outsider
Time for an update I guess.

Things are going a bit slow becuase I am SO VERY busy, but they are going.
(2 full time jobs, both shift work.)
(starting a new company, the second job)
(going to school... again)

Anyways, there has been progress since the last update.
Since the motor is in place it is time to tackle the wiring inside the car. All the plugs are a direct fit.
The only problem is with the computer. The BEAMS computer is larger than the 5S-FE.

The new computer is the same width and thickness as the old one but it is longer.
The old computer only had 3 plugs.
This made room for the mounting tabs to be located, one on the front and one on the side.

Since I do not have the brackets, it was time to improvise.
I decidecd to remove the offending tab and relocate it.

Time to put a few things back together.
(hmmm now where did that go again?)

The longer ECU sticks out a bit more.
I will have to think about how to fasten the rear bracket.
It is now about 1 inch away from the bolts.(not installed)

As I have NO vacuum line data,
it's time to take my best guess and tackle that next.

The final outcome.

I discovered that a Diehard battery will NOT keep a charge for a year and a half.(who knew)
Time to dig out the charger.

Everything is hooked up. WOW, no engine warning light on the dash. good sign.
Oil light is on but I know it is a bit low.
ABS light is on, axles are not yet installed just in case I have to pull the motor.

Now begins the HARD part, I get to diagnose the thing.
It turns over great but will not start.
The fuel pump does cycle no problem and there is new fuel in the tank.

possible causes:
1. vacuum not connected right
2. no spark
3. timing out
4. murphy's law hitting me blindside.

I have heard that the 7th gen ingition is very similar to this system,
that is where I will now look for info.
