Bodywork Questions - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #30012 20 posts Started by Coomer
Over the weekend, I began doing bodywork on my Celica. I've got a few questions though.

1. How do I remove the two rear side windows?

2. Are the door handles difficult to remove? How do they come out?

3. My sideskirts have large areas right behind the doors that need to be filled, pictured below. What's a good plan of attack to fill these areas?

New Toyota project coming soon...
1. I had mine replaced by apple glass. I saw them take off the back panel where the speaker was and unscrew something. Apprently after that it just pops out.

3. Mold it! Wanna make it look clean, mold it in. That will take the gap and the affect that there was ever a gap.
I'll have to pull off the panel and see what it looks like back there.

Oh, I forgot to add that I can't mold anything. I need to be able to take off my fenders and front and rear bumpers to access relocated stuff should stuff go wrong.

Lucky bastard... Look at that huge garage!
I would cut a square section off the top, move the cut piece over to take the gap, then glass a small piece of clothover the top to hold the shape. Once that dries, glass the rear with mat to fill in the gap then body work. You can then sand off that piece of glass. Since the rest of the skirt fits, You dont have to slice it fully. Just the top.
are all z-glyde skirts like that? i sure hope not, i'm still waiting for my copies to come in..

Looking good man!

99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
to remove door handles like, you need to un-hook two metal rods that pull the lock/unlock mechnizim, and the other rod that opens the actual door.

After that, there are two bolts ( i think 12mm) on the left and right side of the handle. With the bolts removed, the handle should just push out with some manuvering.

not sure about the side glass, maybe you need to use piano wire? i dont know never done it before..

btw, how much did the side skirts cost? How do they compare to OEM ones?

Cool...thanks for the info. >smile.gif>

The sides and rear extensions costed me $300 I think. They fit like crap compared to OEM sides, and they're fiberglass and not polyurethane. But they're lower and much more aggressive, and flow well with the extensions.

the info on the door handles is right, as far as the rear side glass, it is sealed to the car, and the only way i have found to remove it is to break it, it is also sealed to the molding that goes around it, i was trying to just take off the molding and i was going to try to buffer the glass clear again, but it ended up craking and i have no choice but to replace them now, i am going to try and put plexi glass in first though because it is much much cheaper, so we will see how it turns out
