Painted and refurbished stock wheels - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #30040 39 posts Started by Jdog1385
(new pics 11-28-05 on second page)

decided to restore and paint my stock wheels instead of buying new ones. i used metal files and sand paper to get out all of the curb rot. this took a little while but it was definitely worth it. I then buffed the wheels and used dupli-color wheel paint (black satin and clear coat). I also bought brand new Falcon Ziex all season tires which should make driving in the snow a lot of fun.

ill post a how-to if you'd like but its pretty straight-forward. i recomend painting the wheels without the tires mounted b/c you can get a better coat of paint on entire wheel.

the paint job looks sweet. i dont know if i really dig all back rims on a car, but you did a good job with it

what size spacers did your order?

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
looks great... how'd they look before paint do you have a close up pic ?

thanks man...the black on black look makes the wheels seem larger than 15". i only like all black wheels on white cars.

the spacers are 15mm front and back

thanks man...takes some courage to use that file on the wheel but the key is using multiple files with different grit sizes.
What'd you do to buff the wheel like you said? If I were you, I would outline the lip in a different color. I know they're beater wheels, but I've liked the red our polished rims on some cars.

I like that look at lot more than your old rims. Nice work! >smile.gif>

used buffing pads that i bought at home depot. they sell the pads or you could just buy the ones that go on a sanding machine. 3M makes the best ones.

Buy my Celica $2,500 -http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=76562&st=0
looks great, i love the gt wheels. if i had a gt, i wouldnt have bought aftermarket wheels. and i have those same tires and have yet to test them in the snow. hope they work good >smile.gif> and i have to say i like them more than your 18's, 35 series are way too low profile in my opinion.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.
Great work Jdog. Where are those 5th gen clear turns??? That would totally make your car sex on wheels. >biggrin.gif>

A Jaws4God Creation...
thanks for the feedback guys

I had those tires too. The first year they were okay in the snow, but after the tread got worn down a little bit, they had nothing in the snow. They still stuck to the wet/dry like glue. I loved them tires, except in the snow.

Will be waiting for the howto, I painted mine as well with duplicolor but it didnt come out as good. Paint appeared rough on mine and the paint inside the centercap is starting to peel a little.

Gotta redo them sometime
they look awesome jdog. now come do mine. my rims are in bad condition lol.
