Depends what youre doing.
For my car, we started with 400grit, and worked up to 600 and 800 grit, all handsanding.
You just need to take the clearcoat off, and make it smooth - take any imperfections out. Keep the paper going in a similar motion, preferrably with the grain.
Um, mask/remove necessary parts, and paint?

If anyone needs interior stuff, etc, I'm parting whats left of my celi out. Just ask.
I've heard and read that sanding above 400 can cause paint adhesion issues.

Yup i've been doing this for a couple days now, i recommend 400 as being your lowest and highest grit before paint. Anything lower and u run a chance of it showing up from under the paint. Mask anything u can't take off, masking tape and a razor are my best friends to get it as close as possible.
