well i found this at streetfire.net but it say traction trouble on 94 celica at 485 hp well who doe this belong to????? 94 celica traction probs

He posted here a while back. You can do a search on it if your really interested. He said he was buying a 90-93 GT-4 so he wouldn't have traction issues. All he really needed was a bigger tire up front and to control the throttle. There's plenty of Honda's running that kind of hp, and you don't see them having that many issues. I only say this because this video made me think that if I have a 3sgte with a lot of hp, I'll never be able to get traction. It's not true.

ya sure thats a lot of power, but the del sol on there has 634 and it doesnt seem so bad.

EDIT: I don't think that del sol is running any 634 hp, but he is running some serious numbers. I'd have to be there in person, and inspect the dyno to believe that much power out of a b18.

Traction is an issue in a FWD 3s car - trust me. There are things you can do to improve it like sticky wide tires and traction bars. However, even at about 200whp, I can't floor it in first or second gear from a stop without spinning the tires on ultra performance all seasons.

You get any car with hp, and you can't floor it. Why is the 3s so much worse? It doesn't make since to me. Can you really not floor it in second at anytime? You must have that thing running nice for that.

Ultra performance all seasons? Isn't that a contradiction of terms? Put some DOT drag radials on and give it a try. Of course you'll be replacing them every 3-4 months but its a small price to pay.

ummm... lets put it this way, every car has its problems. you always see high powered rwd cars loose the back end when they floor it, or awd cars not doing as well on the highway as they do from a stop. fwd is probably the worst, but its not the end of the world. its all in how you drive. just like jay said, with the swap, if you floor it in 1st or 2nd gear, youll probably start spinging... but that dosnt mean the car is useless in those gears. you dont need to floor it all the way to get it moving to smoke some honda that pulls up next to you and if you do loose traction, your car is still hauling ass and making power.... i think you just need to be a better driver with a fwd car and learn how to control it better.

i think the reason why the celica has more traction problems the honda's is because the celica is heavier.

The lighter the car is, the harder for the tires to break the grip. What i mean by that is, when the car is moving. There is less weight transfer and also less weight for the tires to actually pull the car.

My main complaint of all time, is how a honda gsr with a $2000 supercharger can hit 14s on the drag strip. While celica owners with $5000 swap 3s swaps get the same numbers.

I'm not sure if you guys remember, but there was this nissan that people hacked up. They cut off the trunk, cut off the roof, removed every peice of the car they could, and the got the bone stock motor to pull the car to a 14 second quarter mile.

It gets me thinking, how fast would a 3s celica be with the doors, hatch, hood, and fenders removed. Would the traction still be a big problem. With all that removed, the car is a good deal lighter.

You could just do a 3s swap and have a gutted interior, carbon hood, carbon fenders, carbon hatch, carbon doors, and anything else light weight put on the Celica and see how it goes. I bet you could get a 5s into the high 14's if you stripped enough wieght. A stock 3s should do mid 13's then.

keep in mind that we are talking about a SWAPED celica here. the hondas just dont have as much torque (even in their swaped motors) as the 3sgte can put out. almost all honda motors ive seen had higher hp then tq, while the toyotas were the other way around.



the average cost of a swap is 3-5grand. with the swap, you get so much more then what you get with a 2,000 SC kit for a honda. you have to think of the 3sgte as a new platform that you can build onto. the 3s is really only limited by the stock turbo. you can always throw down 800$ for a ct27 can be right in the 13s. its a great platform and is so easy to make even more power out of.

that is very true, but we are dealing with a fwd plat form. We really do NOT need 400 hp to the front wheels. I personally think 300 hp is the MOST a fwd car should ever have. Your asking the front wheels to deal with 250+ hp and steering; and they can't do that. That is why i am opposed to doing the 3s swap. This motor creates too much unusable power.
