Engine temp low - 6G Celicas Forums

Hey guy's I have a problem... when I drive in the city my engine temp is regular and then when I go faster on highways it nearly drops to cold it's been doing this ever since the weather changed can anyone tell me what this could be... this car is really pissing me off theres also a gas smell when I get out and I just got my filler pipe changed that was rusted.
i'm just making guesses but might be the thermostat?

I would say the thermostat as well.
its probably stuck open.
thermostat is stuck open, mine is doing the same thing. as you go faster the engine is getting cooler because the thermostat isn't restricting the coolant flow

yah...the engine works best when hot. when its not properly warmed up theres alot of wear and tear.

..(formerly daily driven) 3S-GTE powered celica currently set @ 12psi..
yeah the oil cools and can thicken, and not do its job efficiently. My old MKII GTi had a broken thermostat and when I got it fixed and rebuilt the cylinders had pieces missing off the walls because of the oil being thicker and running it on the highways and stuff. Its definately something to have fixed ASAP.

How much is it to fix???
all u need is the actual thermostat. dont exactly know how much this would be but i dont imagine it to be expensive. replacing it is a piece of cake so no worry there >wink.gif>

the t stat is about $15 and the gasket is about $4 from a toyota dealer. And you do it yourself, very easy.

This is not a problem:).It has an explanation,you are not pushing your engine at high revs and the heat it not at high levels cuz your car its moving fast and cold air goes direct to 6GCs large radiators (its not the same like having the car at idle beacuse the car its parked).I drove many Celicas and all of them are keeping the temp at low levels.

I just changed mine today, the thermostat itself was 4.99 with a 99 cent gasket and a 1 dollar tube of gasket silicone sealant. Oh yeah and a bottle of coolant. Took me about half an hour to do.

Mine was running at low temperatures on the highway at high speeds and now that I changed the thermostat it maintains a constant engine temperature, even on the highway. Yes, it will cool down a little bit at higher speeds but it shouldn't be running cold (gauge should still be somewhere in the middle)
