Well my celica has started doing this a couple days ago. Sometimes when i'm rolling slowly and swiftly push on the gas it will bog down for 1 sec then kick in really hard, hard enough that i can make the tires squeal in 3rd gear.
I know i might be due for some maintnence, like new cap/rotor wires, timing belt, fuel filter. Would any of these cause this kind of problem?

Also annother thing that bugs me is my tranny is loud and jerks alot, i don't know if it's normal or not but it's worrying me a little bit concidering my celica has 259000kms and 30,000 of those are me driving it hard.

I think you need a new fuel filter. Its like the fuel isn't going to the engine at all. Mine does that. Mine also jerks, but I think your either revving too high then shift or not enough gas entering the chamber at once.

definatly sounds like plugs/ wires/ car to me causing the hesitation.

also, try changing the tranny fluid, that should help the syncros a bit. There is a how-to in the sticky.
