BSD BTM on an ST - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #31219 5 posts Started by CheesyLobster
I just bought Manny's btm and i can't figure out what I'm doing. I've never done any work with the distributer/ignition so yeah....

So pretty much, if someone could just tell me exactly where to hook in the wires that would be nice. Is the coil on my car up on the firewall on the passenger side, or is it an internal coil? I'm lost.

Also, note that the wiring for ignition is different between the 94-95 ST vs the 96-97 ST. I have a 96. If someone could break down the hook up so an idiot could understand I would be eternally greatful.

BUAUAHAHAHAHAH!!!

*cough* Sorry. That's not your coil, that's your wiper motor. Your coil is in your distributor.

How many wires go to the BTM and what do they do?

haha.. whopse... so i have to take off my dist cap to hook this up? i have the btm and tach adapter. I think ? i need one to an ignition 12v source, 1 ground, and 1 to the (-) coil. (?) anyone done this before?
No, you don't have to take it off. Let me check the diagrams...

Okay, there's a plug that goes right into the distributor, and there's a wire on it that is white with a blue stripe. (It goes from there to the ignitor). That's your coil negative.

There's a black wire that goes to your ignitor, along with your coil positive, that's a switched 12v that you can tap into, and the ground, well, that's pretty obvious.
