bye-bye back seats! rear view

front view

Spare tire - 26.5 lbs
Jack/tools - 6.5 lbs
Rear seats - 32 lbs
Mounting brackets & hardware for seats and seat belts - 7 lbs

Seeing as how I'm a total F***tard, I broke some of the mouting hardware for the plastic pieces. Anybody have parts number for these or know where I can get them??

I actually had alot of fun tearing the car apart. Next step is to apply sound damper to pretty much the entire interior (anything metal). Then I plan on building a "floor" over the seats so it's level with the trunk space. That's where I will mount the subs, amps, caps, battery, and nitrous bottle (if i get nos)

Just got the car last week. It's a 94 ST hatcback. I also have a 2001 Nissan XTerra so the Celica is pretty much my hobby car. Haven't done much so far.
-I relocated the cigarette lighter to inside the arm rest...

The wire fits perfectly through the hole next to the coin thingie

Why would anyone do this? you ask.... because this panel is the perfect size and location for a bad ass switch panel.

wow very creative... as im not brave enough to gut the celica, i will def approve of the relocated cig lighter... a set of some switches would look good there
Very nice, I did the same thing to my car so I don't have to drive more than 1 person when going out.

I like your cigerete lighter mod. =D
I think every little bit helps. If its not a daily driver, make it into a total track whore....don't see many of those around this site, suprisingly.

That's awsome. I would go to an appolsty shop to see if they can make you some carpet or something to cover all the white. That would keep it looking nice, but save on the wieght. I might do this. I don't know if I'm brace enough to go without a spare tire, but I will go without back seats.

Well, I've had bad experiences on the track... In my motorcycle days. Let's just say that after 7 broken bones the track is not my friend. wink.gif

nice bro!

Man, that looks like a nasty spill....good to see you're ok though.

The reason I say track whore is because I can totally imagine seeing the car with a 6 point roll cage, racing seats and wheel, harnesses, strut bars, etc. filling the interior in place of those gutted components. Add a 4AGE with ITB's and some stiff coilover suspension and you've got yourself a mean track car, thus my "track whore" premonition. wink.gif

I agree with the others on the sig lighter idea too, very clever.

I'm a n00b and I have no idea what that means frown.gif

lol...your alot like me, except for the whole motorcycle thing...i kinda relocated my cig lighter...i moved it to my arm rest, but i put in a double its weird...ill try and take a pic..but yea, i have an xterra also, and just have this car for fun...So welcome to the celica/xterra club!

I am now a part of the ihavemorethen16gc club!
4age with ITB means

4age <--toyota motor 4cylinder 1.6l naturally asperated

ITB <---individual throttle bodies, it came stock on the 4age motor

There are some threads about it floating around. It's not as easy to find them as others. If you just want some info on it, it's easy. Hard to get real deap in it though. The silvertop and black top came with ITB. The 20v came with them too. I haven't seen anyone swap in a 4age that doesn't have ITB. I'm not real sure on that though.

Why stop there? If you want to lose even more weight, get rid iof the sound deadening material too..

man.. you guys are hardcore!

you guys are all p*ssys compaired to me. I went for the rust technique, since rust is lighter than metal, i saved about 90 lbs. In fact, im so hardcore, I removed the steering wheel as well for an extra light car.

^lmfao. anyway, i wouldnt gut my car like that cuz it looks ugly. theres really no point in doing that if you have a 7a or 5s, imo. even if you cover it with carpet, it's like, what hapopened to the rest of your car? but whatever makes you happy man.
I did it because I'm building a floor in the back that extends from the back of the trunk all the way front of where the back seats used to be... pics to come.

-MarkGB: Celica Optima Battery Box
i did that^^ w/out tearing out everything. . .just built a platform in the back (and use sound deadening stuff to make my ride quiet)...here is a pic:

I gut mine in the summer. I've pretty much done everything in this thread. I've also lost/broke a lot of mounting hardware in the process. The best thing is I can throw it all back together in 30 minutes if I want to.

I was also going to recommend removing the sound-deadening tar but someone beat me to that.

However none of you are as hardcore as johnl from celicatech. He took his 91 GTS and stripped out about 450lbs from the interior and engine so he could autocross it. There was almost nothing left of the car. He welded in a steel post (from an old parking meter) across the dash (after he removed it) for rigidity, and I think he even relocated his power window switches to the center and mounted them on a piece of tupperware.

I like the cig lighter relocation, but what happens if you get a flat tire and don't have the spare? imo, you don't need to lighten the car by taking out the spare and jack unless you are timing it on the track.
i like my set-up....feels like a race car, but is fuctional and good looking...but i have to admit, if my car were a "track car only" i'd gut the inside....never happening though...LOL biggrin.gif

looks like my car smile.gif i love only having 2 seats so i dont have to drag people around. i suggest for time being before you build a floor is to put the trunk carpet over your rear seat wells, if you turn it backwards, it acutally fits surprisingly well.

my car looked like player's for awhile, i had all panels and speaker assemblies removed for while. my girlfriend didnt like it for that month or so lol but i was so busy with school and everything at the time. all my future projects are going to be in the summer now smile.gif

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.
you may of lost 70 pounds, but your gonna gain like a MILLION!!! when you add that sound deadning material laugh.gif

It's my "fun" car. I have a truck that I drive for work. If I get a flat, I'll just call someone to give me a ride home to get the spare. Or to get the flat fixed.

laugh.gif thats not what we did, you did the opposite....stripping means losing weight...you just gained weight

This post has been edited by playr158: Dec 7, 2005 - 12:38 PM
LOL, i know. . . but the weight i gained was very small - - used light weight stuff - -

if my car was strictly a track car, i'd strip it down like a lot of you guys. . .but seeing as i will never have "strictly" a track car. . .i will never do that. . .

. . .so i like it my way, build a platform, make the interior feel like a race car, but keep the interior apealing. . .i love the feel! biggrin.gif
