Boost Problems - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #31797 9 posts Started by CheesyLobster
So ever since I put on my turbo charger I've been noticing a few strange things.

1. Before anything, I noticed a somewhat strange smell coming from my car. I believe that it's coming from the exhaust.

2. Sometimes (but not all the time, which is strange) I'll boost to like 5 psi and i get a ton of smoking coming out of my exhaust for about 3 seconds after the boosting, then it stops.

Some things to consider-
My oil return line could be straiter down than it is... I'd say it’s at about 20 degrees off from strait down... Also, the return line is about 1/2 inch, which I hear is small for a return line.
The smell from the car could very well be oil, but it's hard to tell.
Also, I've never had my car dyno tuned (yet, I'm waiting until I get on my BTM).

Otherwise, the car seems to run fine. Could this be something more serious like a piston ring? Or do I just need to tune it, or straiten out my oil line? Where should I go with this? Ideas??

Please help, thanks.
The problem could very well be your small oil return and the bend.

2 things.
#1:
GET A BIGGER RETURN LINE. it needs to be at LEAST -10an (5/8), perferably -12an (3/4)
#2:
what size is your feed line? and are you using a restrictor?

1. Will do.
2. Oil feedline is 1/8 im pretty sure. i'm using this kit here for the gt25.
are you using the restrictor listed?

Are you sure about the restrictor? because i've heard differing opinions about it. also on that site it says to get it if the oil pressure goes above 50 psi on boost, and im pretty sure that my car stays at about 40-45. I think doggy said that you should have as much oil as possible going into the turbo and a really big return line to make up for that.

if you have an ST , your oil pressure is DEFINETLY above 50psi at times, ive seen it myself on dustins car.
fix your return line first, and if it still smokes, you know what it is wink.gif

This happened to me too. either ur getting too much oil to the turbo or ur seals in ur turbo are blown. is their oil in ur BOV??
