Crank Pulley removal the Poor way! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #32336 3 posts Started by soulshadow
Ok, so i don't have any fancy tools to remove the crank pulley to do yada yada blah blah to the timing belt or waterpump. So today I found a way to remove the pulley using a 17MM metric socket with a long drive and a good 'ol Rubber hammer that I have found to be extremly useful now-a-days. What I did was, I took my socket wrench and inserted it on the bolt, Then with the hammer, I slighlty (pounded) tapped it counterclock wise. Soon enough the bolt will loosen and it comes out YAY!!!

P.S Although It was cheap and the pulley will try to move, you just have to do it right and of course careful not to damage anything while tapping and [yes watch out where you put your left thumb cause mine still hurts!]
nothing cheap about it. i use that meathod a lot. it helps break the bolts loose. just make sure you have a 6point socket on there or else you WILL strip a bolt. we striped my crank bolt cause all we had in that size was a 12point. i had to go to toyota later on and have them do the belt, just cause that bolt was ****ed.

yea levrage helps a lot... when i was installing my springs i ended up using a long pole and a hammer a few times... the torque is amazing, but yea you have to be careful not to strip the bolt
