5sfe - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #32370 11 posts Started by CelicaGT04
Ok so i want to buy a complete turbo kit. The kit includes everything i need for the swap. The turbo is a ct26 with a front mount intercooler. Now my question is to you people, how much psi can the 5sfe withstand without detonation? I dont want to push it to the limit, but i want to make sure that i can run the 5sfe safetly at higher psi. The psi i am thinking of is maybe 10-14? if that is to high let me know. Thanks.
try about 7-8..... after that.... i would worry about internals getting sketchy
a stock 5s i think its around 13 psi it can handle before failer ...

no if you rip that baby apart and rebulid it for boost you will be able to handle 14psi with no problem ..but at that point you will have spent more then you would have if you swapped... but you will also have a street legal car also ...

any info on where you're gonna buy your kit? cause like lagos said.. ebay complete turbo kits are NOWHERE near complete. look at presure2 or my kit. that's complete. well if you have a old motor like me.. i wouldn't recommend you to boost over 7psi which is the stock wastegate setting.. although i went 12psi once lol.. i once heard presure2 telling me that the 5sfe is good for up to 19psi but i'll NVR recommend anyone to try that. but anyway.. if you have a fresh motor, takes good care of it and know wat you're doing.. boosting at 10 once in awhile is fine.. like presure2. he did 15psi on the track once. he have a fresh motor and of course metal head gasket.

under 8 psi with an EMS, and you'll have a happy and dependable 6gc.

vin, you NEVER heard me tell you that.
EVER.
any celica pre 98 without a metal headgasket id recomend keeping it under 10psi, more like 7-8...with the metal headgasket, you can run a "little" more..
i've been running 10-12psi on my 98 motor for 7+ months daily driven..knock on wood, no major problems yet, but not to say i dont EXPECT somthing to happen at some point..
its pretty much a given, at some point if you turbo your car, your gonna break SOMTHING.
thats just how it works smile.gif

yes you did manny. you told me that before but eh... anyway... when a motor's boosted. it'll break eventually. just the matter of time.

hahahaha i dont think manny said that.

psi is also a bad way of thinking about things. you should take your base hp and then think of a % that you would like to gain in hp. i think something like 50-80% more power then stock is a good goal. if you think about psi, then that all depends on what turbo you are using. some turbos make a lot more power at 7psi then others do at 19 .

yeah i agree. the motor power you make the more stuff youll brake. even if your motor holds up, you need new tires and brakes sooner, or maybe a clutch , etc...

I always thought a 5s boosted at 5-7psi with a high quality EMS, ignition upgrades and professional tuning would be fairly dependable (engine wise).

I know I've seen postings of 5sfte going past 80k. Anyone else heard of 5sfte lasting longer?
from what i seen of the 5s it's a strong block an can handle a pre -boost rebulid...if thats done you can double the hp of the eninge with no problem for every day driving ... but again when doing that.. your engine would be the last thing to worry about ... like art said .. your going to have to worry about brake, clutch. axles .. etc...
