Here in the states it generally means someone from the northeast, from the Civil War. Or at least I think thats where it comes from. So maybe it would offend someone from the Southeast, but probaby wouldnt matter to anybody else.

calling someone Yank over here would be like say "hey you" ...

I think it could be offensive. I'm not sure how comfertable I would be being called a yank. It just seems like most of the time people are refering to Americans as yanks, it's in a demening way. Could just be my imagination.

if u called my car rice...or called me a honda lover...THEN i might get offended tongue.gif
It would definitely offend someone from Boston.
americans aren't all white...

i dunno about some of the ppl from the states, but if some one called me a canuck or a hoser i wont care. I think i would kill my self laughin if some one who wasnt canadian called me a hoser.
it depends on the tone for me.
i've heard of some places not being so friendly to american tourists and how they use it in a condecending maner.
I think at one point, being called a "yankee" was not a derogatory term, but rather a nickname used in a deragatory way, especially during the Civil War when Southeners would refer to those from the North. But these days, now that the term has been openly used as the naem of a baseball team and in several songs, mostly from the civil war era, it is no longer thought of as offensive.

In turn, do you get offended if someone calls you an Aussie? i believe was also once used as a derogatory term, but now is considered mainstream.

I think that "Yank" and "Yankee" are different things.

That said, I wouldn't be offended by either one.

Then again, I'm not easily offended... heheh

The American language changes so fast its hard for Americans to keep up.
I prefer to be called bitch or dog. But Yank is OK too I guess.

JDM guy made me do it.
I'm usually called midget or teeny. frown.gif I'm not short, I'm just vertically challenged. wink.gif

u can call me nething that pops in your mind - but i do prefer 1337 talk smile.gif. being called a yank is almost over played - white is actually a minority here almost now. its cuz we're so diversified!

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.
