has anyone tried to take the front disks on a junk GT and put them on the rear of their driver? i would like totake up some space in mt wheels....i konw you will probably have to do some cutting and welding so don't be affraid. also what US model can iget the 4 piston calipers from?

you would have to use the front steering knuckel ine the back ... but then you would have to do some cazy fab work to keep the same rear suspension.... and you would lose your hand brake ... it can be done.. but it will take alot of fab work ... you might be better off trying to custome fit there rear brakes off another car that has a 5 x 100 bolt pattern ...

if your really thinking about doing this.. i suggest taking a diagram of there rear and front brake assm.. to see how each works and then see if you can go from there ... or if your willing to do or have all that work done...

what about if you find a junked gt coupe or convertible, cant you take the rear brakes from it and install em on the rear or is it different

Yeah, you can do this. You need the intire assimbly though. Can't just get rotor and caliper.

99 and up grand ams and olds aleros are 5x100....hmmmmm

ok #1 you just don't cut and weld and pick a car with the same lug pattern that has little to do with brakes...besides the fact that a rotor will slide over the lugs doesn't mean it will fit...

if you want rear disks to get bigger be SMART be SAFE contact a company such as IROTORS, POWERSLOT, ROTORA, AEM, WILWOOD, PROJECT MU

spend some money have a big brake kit made lets not be stupid

rear disc conversions should cost couple hundred bucks!! $$$ save up! woo hoo

What the heck kind of thing is that to say? Buy a kit? Screw that. If you can't make your own, you don't deserve the right to buy one. I'm not going out and spending 15 hundred on a rear disk brake kit when I can make one for a 10th of that. Heck, use a 5th gen one like Kwanza did. He posted a thing on it not to long ago.

you can't just magically make a rear big brake kit...that is unless you have a CNC machine, auto cad and some decent engineering knowledge....
so prove me wrong and make a big rear brake kit (that nobody else has made yet) for 1/10th of lets say 1500$ just to be really nice on the cost..thats umm 1500/10 = 150$ so let me see a big brake kit for the REAR brakes of a 6gc for 150$ smart ass...

and to my knowledge i've never seen a rear 5th gen big brake kit either that works on a 6gc much less a 5th gen OEM rear disk swap

oh and if you want to get REALLY picky and go by your "If you can't make your own, you don't deserve the right to buy one. " i'm pretty sure you would be homeless, crapping in the woods, without a car....cause i doubt you can build your own celica, build your own house...muchless build your own crapper...so you don't deserve to buy them

Try me. And I didn't say the 5th gen big brake kit, I just said 5th gen brakes. Get a clue, man. And I have worked on building a house, running plumbing, wiring, and I've done a bottem up restore of a car. It was a 74 cj-5, which isn't the most tech advanced piece of machinery, but I did do it. I just hate it when people think if you want any thing any good you have to pay big bucks for it. You can go ahead and do that for whatever your going to do, but I'm not. I'll make what I need, and I'll do my work myself if at all possible. I'm not saying I don't need help sometimes, I think we all do. But it's plane wrong to think that you have to spend a lot of money to have something good. You can't agrue with that.

EDIT: Why didn't you jump on Kwanza? He's the one who said this thread was making him dumber.

Umm... a big rear brake kit is PURELY cosmetic. It'll serve little to no purpose because the fronts on FWD cars do about 70% of the braking anyways. The rears are merely there to balance it out. If you REEAALLLY REEALLLY wanted a big rear brake it however... all you need is a custom rotor to house over the internal drum... from there... a big caliper and a custom caliper bracket. You CANNOT simply move fronts to rears because you need a custom rear rotor...

cause kwanza knows what he's talking about....and this thread is making the both of us dumber...

which you can't just make nor buy...they have to be CUSTOM made by a PROFESSIONAL...
