Boost gauge acting up - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #33643 11 posts Started by southwest2118
when ever i start my car in the morning or a cold start the boost gauge needle shakes pretty hard :!: i can hear it and see it. at first it moves up and down like 2-3 inches of mercury (in-Hg) then as the car warms up a little it calms down and just dose it when i have throttle at like 60% and the needle is at like 5. so when I'm accelerating and try to keep my gauge at 5 it will shake very little but you can hear it and see it if you look hard.?

kindasad.gif normal ?
kindasad.gif vac leak ?
what brand is it? what is your vac at idle? what engine is this on?

im going to take a wild guess and say tha gauge is the problem. ive never seen that brand before. its probably something really cheap and probably not working right?

from a guessing stand point i would agree, if you have something like an autozone around you rent a tool to measure vacum aside from ur boost gauge, let the motor idle (DO NOT BOOST) and see what type of readings you get, if they are low for the 7a its a possible boost leak, but the gauge itself may be the leak so first test I would do is bypass teh boost gauge line and reconnect the source to how it would be if the gauge did not exist. then retest your vacum (again DO NOT BOOST) with the tool.

You can hear your boost gauge? Hahahaha...sorry man, but that just read too funny. biggrin.gif
