Has anyone used one of these and if so were there any problems?

from what i have read, they don't filter air well.
yeah i dont think it would work very well, it would be hard to weave steel mesh close enough together to trap particals, but far enough apart to let good air flow though, fibers can be weived much better for a filter.
Getting a little bit off topic, I didn't wanna start a thread just for this... is sponge air filter any good? i'm using the hks air filter and they're made from spongy material... i've heard that once the sponge get old it falls into pieces and get suck into the engine, is that true?

You'd be a fool to let them get THAT old. They are oiled and all...

there is a thread discussing airfilter material.

search for apexi.
the problem with thouse type of cone filters is that the air gets cluttered and the two different currents of air coming into the filter conflict.

theres gonna be 2 different flows into the filter, one comes through the top of the cone, the other comes in through the side. When they all get into the actuall filter, the one coming from the top spirals and conflicts with the one coming in from the side thats just going straight in. If you gonna go with an after market filter, get an HKS mushroom filter or theres another company that makes a filter like the HKS one thats reusable. Or get a K&N cone. It has the end blocked off plus the filter is reuseable. Only thing is about the K&N one is it its kinda loud when ur sitting at idol cuz of the suction on a short ram intake. Im thinkin of switching to a HKS one soon.

I think that I have decided to go with an Apexi power filter. I am using a cheap Ebay cone right now.

I don't think there's going to be to much difference on the 5sfe or 7afe. There isn't a need for that much air because they don't reach to high rpms. That's just my opinion though. I think it's based on fact. But the Apexi filter is around $70-80. Ebay's filters are around $15. The Apexi is only going to pick up a fraction of a hp over the ebay. But I guess it will filter better.

apexi = cleaner air.

that should be a good enought reason to buy it.
