wierd shifting in first - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #33986 7 posts Started by rjbibeau
I just put in a new 5sfe cuz I spun a bearing in my old one. when i grab the shifter it has trouble going back to center to neutral. when i put the shifter left to right it seems like it is catching on something on the housing but there is nothing there catching it. when the shift cables were unhooked from the tranny the shifter was perfect. what do you think seems to be the problem? i think i might be a half quart low on mtf would it make that much of a diff? thanks guys.

the fluid could make a difference yes. top it off first thing then try again

1999 Celica GT
fluid is topped off. it seems to be a problem with the shifter housing. like when i go into first it is actually going into third. for me to go into first i have to hold it in place at first.
bump. anyone got any ideas?
did you bleed the clutch lines? did you fill the tranny with oil?

it kind of sounds like you put your shifter cables on the wrong way one the tranny.
