225-45-17s installed! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #34023 38 posts Started by lagos
i just got my 225-45-17 kumho asx installed on my 17x7 rims. the ride quality is a MILLION times better then the horrible 205-40s i had before. the pic dosnt really do them justice, but the car has a bad ass look to it now with these tires. you can also tell that they are a lot wider when looking at the front of the car, and should provide much better traction then the tires i had before.. they even made the car sit about 3/4th of an inch higher (just eyeballing it) and speed bumps are no longer a problem like they used to be. im very happy with them so far

here is a before and after:

nice job Art. I heard the 45 is a much better ride quality compared to the 40. thumbsup.gif

More sidewall you have, the better ride it will be. That tire also filled the leftover wheel gap nicely too.

Can you take a close up picture from the front so we can see tire width?

looks great art!

ill try to wash the car this week and take some better pics with a real camera. one thing that will give you a good idea is that it looks like its VERY clost to rubbing in the rear (dosnt rub tho), and the wheels look more flush with the car then before. i dont think i could fit 20-25mm spacers in there, like i wanted to before.

nice,

you need to flood this thread with many many pictures, front back and side. smile.gif
are those the fast and the furious rims, or did those have more spokes?? anyways looks good man
Looks good Art. I see you went for the ASX's....not a bad choice of tire. I was undecided about mine for a while, but I realized that alot of my issues were related to an awful alignment, not the quality of the tire.

Great tire for the money....mire were cheap and have kept their tread really nicely.

yeah, i liked the price and they got pretty good reviews on tirerack, thats why i went for them . i figure that most people have something good and bad to say about just about any tire, so i might as well try them for myself.

im very happy with them so far. the ride quality is everything i was looking for, and im getting a lot more traction then i had before. i drove around today looking for pot holes and spped bumps that i used to fear haha these tires are definetly a world of difference from the 205-40s i had before.

here are some more cell phone pics i took today. nothing great, but i thought id share.

took the words right out of my mouth smile.gif. much better in my opinion.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

You mean the Axis se7ens. No those aren't Axis, but they look just like them.

Looks good, Makes me want to ditch my 205/40's for some bigger tires, but I will just wait until I can burn all the tread off.

I always used this Tire profile on my 17 setup - its best in looks/ride quality/grip IMHO.

Yeah I think I'm just goign to be very liberal with the throttle this summer and use up my 215/35s and get some 225/40s or 45s.

good deal art, i think imma up size with the next set...even the 205 to 215 diffrence is HUGE, id imagine its even better with those.

i like my 215's, but i think it would be interesting to see the difference with the 225's... IMO they look good on your car

yeah i think you would really like it. if anything, at least go with 215-45, but dont go higher then 225-45. i think a few people managed to fit 234-45s, but i really dont see how you could do it on a lowered car.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
i personally like 18's better than 17's just dont like the weight or ride quality form the low pros
i wanted to go to a 225 40 18 but they rub at max turning angle so i might just do the 225 35 18 i want more rubber though it might have to do with my rims being 18x8 i alonely have a inch drop from the eibach pros
this is with my 2153518 falkens i need wider tires bad

you have the same rims? i dont remember the offset but there 18 x 8.0 with 215 35 18 tires which were off my old motegi rims 18 X 7.5 these rims are heavy

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte
No i have the same size tires. 8'' rims are wider than my 7.5's so I dont think i'll have the same rubbing that you would.

yeah falkens 215 35 18 fit perfect on 18X7.5 rim the rubber stickout farther than the rim to protect it i look for that in tires those protective lips

hey i'll sell you these tires they have 70% tread left one is almost new for 200 + ship just pm me

18s do look the best on our cars, but i coildnt stand the ride quality on a daily driven car.

one last pic for greening to show how wide thw tires are.

I'm confused, I have 215/35/18s right now with 95% tread on them, they're Kumho and they dont stick out over the rim at all.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
if you look at a falken tire they have a little extra rubber for rim protection but not all tires do that some do some dont

yeah some companies add in a rim guard. but nik, even in your pics, you can tell that your rims are still sticking out past the tries.

well a 215 wide tire isnt meet for a 8 inch wide rim thats why i said they fit perfect on 7.5 inch wide rims at the time i got new rims i didnt have the money to get wider tires so i throught my 215's back on until i could get wider tires thats all if i got a 225 in falken i would beat money that the rim the rim protector will extend past the rim. so thats all im saying for 7.0 to 7.5 a 215 works good on a a 8.0 and bigger you need a min of a 225 wide tire but thats me so
