It seems I see alot of people going from a 5sfte to a 3sgte..or 5sfte blowing up and throwing a rod..

Is that because it's being pushed too hard???

Who has run a 5sfte for the longest on these boards?

I would have thought a moderatly boosted 5sfte..with around 150-160 whp could withstand the occasional WOT treatment better...I mean toyota sells superchargers for the small 1zz-fe without requiring any internal upgrades and theres even a warrenty.

Are some of oyu pushing it too far or it just doesn't like boost?

my setup has be running since june 5 of last yr, pretty much daily driven.
that said, IMO its just a matter or time. lol
will it last? sure, it can and will...
will it last as long as a normal 5sfe, HELL no, and you really cant expect it to.
the key with the 5sfte is KNOWING what your getting into before you start.
you WILL have little issues that pop up from time to time, that need attention. its just a fact.
if you dont work on your car now, dont expect a 5sfte to last.
your gonna HAVE to work on your car, at some point.
another thing is tuning.
dont spend all your money on the turbo stuff, then skimp when it comes time to tune it.
i cant stress enough how important it is to get on a dyno with a wideband, and having the car tuned properly.
i really think that a properly tuned setup on the 5sfTe can be very reliable, for a given amount of time. its just a matter of not knowing how long that time is.
alot of it has to do with the condition of the motor your starting with.
i started with a 98 motor in GREAT condition, and IMO that has ALOT to do with why the motor has held up.
i also think a metal headgasket is a big key.
so far, ive had good sucsess, but IMO with the way i push it, it would not suprize me if it breaks, and i wont be dissapointed if it does.
the key is to learn as much as you can, and then apply it to the next project. cause theres ALWAYS the next..lol
