So I was thinking about stuff I had read on the Honda forums a long time ago.

Would it be possible to put a 3sge head/cams/valves etc on a 5sfe bottom end?

I know when I had my Prelude SI there were guys mating the H22 v-tec head and cams onto the H23 bottom end, the head just needed a couple small water jacket machinings and it would bolt up, guys were making a lot of HP with it. Didn't know if there would be some type of work like this done with our engines.

i have heard of a 3sgte head on a 5sfe block before but i dont know if it works or not. no hard evidence.

that one was a little more of an in-depth build than I was looking to do haha. Otherwise I didn't find much through searching, I just didn't know how cross-compatible different components like that would be.

1. Toyota's aren't hondas.
2. Headswaps are geared towards generating more horsepower... .2 liter of displacement ain't sh!t... in fact, it'll hurt horsepower generation
3. can't have your cake and eat it too... small 4 cylinders cannot possibly make good horsepower AND hold a good useable torque band at the low-end... the way the engine makes horsepower simply cannot generate both.
4. search. I've posted a lot with regard to the 5S bottomend and horsepower... so search.

2. good... but if displacement isn't everything... why go through the trouble of building a 5SGE when a 3SGE can easily match it?
3. Why would you want to build a 5SGE if NOT for torque? There is no other reason.
4. If you cannot research... building the engine will be much harder...

I have no clue why people even bother thinking about this. Why go through all the time and trouble for something that's just not worth it and only a handful of people would find cool or apprciate. There are so many better options. Just get a 3S-GE or a 3S-GTE. That motor has already been proven to handle 800+ horsepower. There's nothing that you're going to magically mutt together that can beat that.

If it's gonna not be worth it then I'll just sell the Celica and get something faster like an MR2, these cars are too ****ing slow and not worth the money. The only reason I asked is I was thinkin about the honda stuff, almost everything could bolt onto a different series engine. A guy took an accord F series block with a Prelude H22 head and H23 pistons, some other crank threw it together in a weekend and untuned it made like 260 at the wheels. For the money some of you guys put into these cars you could get real performance cars that would still run circles around your modded Celi's.

Wait a minute, I just actually read that... A honda guy got 260 wheel horsepower from a new crank and different head? That sounds like a lot of bull**** to me. Getting over 300 n/a crank horsepower out of ANY four cylinder could never be that easy. However I'm willing to accept links for proof.

well theres no replacement for cubic dollars either
anything is possible....

i would liek to know abut this subject too..i have a low budget so it makes more sense to me to try THIS then to spend the money for a swap. If blu or anyone is like me they use the celica as a D/D not just as a toy to play with so keeping it running for as large percent od the time as possible is important. also not everyone has the cash to just go and buy a motor or even save for one let alone one that everyone wants to get their hands on....i want to see more on this topic

It will cost more to do an EXPERIMENT like this one than would it to simply buy a clip. Why? cause engine "parts" are typically more expensive than whole engines... and you're gonna have to find a LOT of mysterious parts...

My advice, bad idea and highly not worth the money. Also, Kwanza is speaking from a crap load of experiance, unlike me. So I would listen to him. Hes a mechanical god. But dont let me or him discourage you.
