3sgte Swap Complete!!! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #34462 37 posts Started by gtfc115
well today was the best day in a LOOONG time (about 2 years). i got a call from my guy at the shop and he said the swap was done. OH JOY.

i picked it up and went driving around for a few hours...not really beating on it too bad, but i was giving it some gas a few times. wow this thing is awesome. its tough to find the gears sometimes (i need to re-do my mr2 tranny shifter conversion). and i need to grind down the passenger side engine mount cuz its resting on the timing gear cover.

so now here's the first inevitable problem...i was on my way home on a country road and stepped on it a little, and it died. at first i thought it just stalled so i tried to start it back up, and it died again. i pull over and started it and it idled ok, but if i even touched the gas a little, it died.

i called the shop and he said it sounded like my fuel pump went out. does that sound right to you guys? i was expecting this to happen cuz i was using my 7afe fuel pump (i know, BAD idea). so now's my chance to get a new one.

so did i blow the motor? it didnt sound bad...it just died

and yeah, i know it was stupid...
If the car started up and idled fine I dont think you blew your motor.

Replace that fuel pump asap or you will blow it, it was unwise of not only you but the mechanic to not upgrade the pump.

well it was my fault...he didnt know anything about the swap before i brought my car to him.

im going tomorrow morning to talk to him. i doubt he'll have a new pump in there by then, so i'll make sure he gets a bigger one.
oh, and i should post this in the other thread. but the short axle solution worked for me. get another axle and use that part as a spacer, get longer bolts, and you're set.
you probably have a vac leak causing you car to stall out

hold up... it took 2 years to do the swap?

ss-iii splitters and 404 skirts areon. which means i need to update my sig.

well its already at the shop, but is there an easy way to check for that? either way, its getting a new fuel pump.
check your boost guage. if you are running less then 20PSi of vac. you have a leak
...does not sound like your swap is complete wink.gif Good luck sorting it out!

Hope you get it figured out. I'm curious why the mr2 clip was a mistake?

just read the thread below this one.

Alright, got it. I thought that was the motor all you guys were using. I read this:

1st Generation - 190 HP(USDM '87-'89 Celica All-Trac), 187 HP(JDM '87-'89 Celica GT-Four)
2nd Generation - 200 HP(USDM '90-'93 Celica All-Trac, USDM '91-'95 MR2 Turbo), 221 HP(JDM '90-'93 Celica GT-Four, JDM '89-'94 MR2 Turbo), 231 HP(JDM '90-'93 Celica GT-Four RC)
3rd Generation - 239 HP(Non-JDM '94-'99 Celica GT-Four), 241 HP(JDM '95-'99 MR2 Turbo), 251 HP(JDM '94-'98 Celica GT-Four)
4th Generation - 254 HP(JDM ST246 Toyota Caldina GT-Four)

Found this at the feasible swap section and thought hmm mr2 the way to go. So are most people using the
all-trac?

agreed. smile.gif
just so you know, the stock NA fuel pump does not even deliver enough fuel for 190whp.
i wouldnt drive the car without getting a bigger pump in there.

ok well i got the car back...turns out my IC piping came apart at one of the joints, and an exhaust gasket blew because the ****ty overpriced tuner shop that i had it at for a while put a PAPER gasket on it. im about ready to take a lawyer back to that place.

but the shop it's at now is going to put the fuel pump in. what kind should i get? are the walbro 255lph on ebay good enough?

also, the car shakes like a mofo because of that passenger side mount resting against the engine...the shop says they dont think it can be grinded down or cut of. wtf?
did you look at the how to on celicatech, it has alot about the mounts
get the walbro if you want cheap or an oem supra pump in you want quiet but expensive.

you can grind that mount down a bit, but it shouldnt shake because of it. make sure that your front and rear mounts are in good shape. those are the ones that normally cause shaking.

just got a walbro supra pump 255lph, blah blah...cant wait so i can drive this biotch again.

how hard is the install?
The fuel pump install is very easy. Use plenty of PB blaster, and use flare wrenches on the fuel lines. Make sure you solder and heat shrink wrap the electical wires on the pump. DO NOT USE ELECTRICAL TAPE.

You can grind down the passenger side braket to fit it to the engine. In the link below I have pictures of where exactly you need to grind.

Link from the stickies

Some advice, start doing your own work on the car. Don't trust someone that has no idea what they are doing. You may say you also have no idea what you are doing. But, you can come here and ask us for advice before the damage has been done.

Good luck
DEF

I will return one day.

lol, yes, learn from my mistake and DO NOT use electrical tape in the tank.

thanks def. i'll have to post a pic of where my mount is resting against the engine...it doesnt look like the one in the sticky (which i had seen before).

im starting to think (and i wouldnt doubt it) that they used the wrong engine mounts. i bought GT mounts, but mine does not look like part that needs to be grinded...
make sure theyre useing the GT BRACKET, and not just the mount.
you need to grind the bracket.

its so sad because it seems like you did no research and just trusted a place to figure everything out for you. im not trying to be mean by saying that, its just that i think youll have a lot of issues to work out because of your lack of research before starting this project. this is a good example of how a swap can go bad if you make the wrong decisions or dont have a solid game plan.
