replacing airbags - 6G Celicas Forums

2 airbags, 2 front crash sensors, and ecu?

what about a clock spring, is this a one time usage piece?
does the passenger airbag door need to be replaced?

this thread in particular makes it sound like replacing airbags is near impossible, however it is old and more recent threads have suggested only the parts i listed above.

which is it?

That I am not sure on, my was scratched pretty bad from the broken glass. But being an AIRbag, I would think you would'nt want to take a chance on little pieces of glass rupturing a new bag.

Not impossible just costly. Read what I wrote in that thread about locating a body shop that will let you install used parts, it was a nightmare.

where is the centor sensor located? i plan on installing the bags myself. playr158 has done it before and my dash will be removed almost entirley for the new wiring anyway.

Under the center console beside your e-brake.

what is the center sensor for? if its a crash sensor wouldnt i not need to replace it since it wasnt hit in that area (similar to how i dont have to replace the rear ones) or is it a different type of sensor

edit: and the ecu is in front of the ebrake right?

also, the passanger side airbag breaks your dash, when you replace the passager side airbag you need to replace the dash.

what do you mean by "break" the dash? it just has that flap open up right? dont see how i need to replace the dash.
out of curiousity, gas, where did you hear that you needed to replace the clock spring?

ive been reading up, and it looks like the clock spring just completes the circuit and allows things like cruise control, radio, airbags etc, to receive electrical current while the steering wheel turns up to 360 degrees.

you can test your clockspring with a multimeter for continuity, which is what i plan to do, but i do not see how its a one time use piece.

Just telling you exactly what the body shop places all told me. But the Celica files somebody has on this site says to check the cable for damages and replace if needed.

so where exactly is the clockspring located? and where do u get this?
clock spring is behind the steering wheel, ill find you a picture, it wont be of our celica clockspring but of a 90-93 celica clockspring cause thats all i can find

i actually think our clockspring and the 90-93 celica clocksrpings would be the same

hmm..yea mine didnt seem to be damaged at all when i was changing all my stuff out..but idk..not everything is connected yet..so idk if it must be changed
well if you hook all of your stuff back up and the airbag light is still on the clockspring needs replacing

but you can test with a multimeter i believe, thats what a site said, try googling "testing your clockspring"
