tune up - 6G Celicas Forums
Well there really isn't a way to improve your gas milege unless you believe those things on tv. But what are you running under the hood right now? Are you lightly modded with an Intake and exhaust?
My Twins!
ngk or denso
all i have right now(well itll be here tomorrow) is a weapon r intake. thats it for now. and thanks for the input lew.
add some lucas fuel cleaner too, that wilh helpchanging to syntenthic is nice too but can be costly. replace distributor cap and rotor with new rubber seal.
also should i run a higher octane gas through my car? i just put the cheap stuff in. but like i said im not turboed or anything like that
you might want to do your spark plug wires too...It all depends on how long ago they've been changed.
My Twins!
i dont know that theyve ever been changed. i dont do too much of my own work so how hard would you say that is on a scle of 1-10
3, wires are easy to pull out. full tune-up maybe a 5-6. just take your time and get it done right
when i do the whole tune up what should i check/replace?
time to get a book on the celi!
change spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, rubber seal, change oil and oil filter, add lucas fuel additive to tank. check air in tires and rotate tires.

I agree to that. lol Well it depends on how long you've owned your car and what's been replaced prior...
My Twins!
find records on the last waterpump and timing belt change too...i also recommend a coolant flush if you do that.
That along with brake fluid, fuel sock (in tank) and fuel filter, clutch fluid. If your car has high milege i reccomend not doing a tranny flush.

redline sl-1 or chevron techron. both work well, i've only used techron.

brandon,
the BEST thing you can do for your car at this point, is:
goto www.partznet.com
get pricing on the following:
plugs
wires (with coil wire)
distributor cap (and rubber seal if needed)
rotor
fuel filter
write down all the prices, and take that to your local toyota dealer.
ask them if they can price match, and have them get you the parts listed.
clean your air filter.
then, do everything on that list.
if you dont have flare wrenchs, you may wanna pass on the fuel filter,it can be a pain to do, and you can kink up your fuel line pretty bad if your not careful.
all the other stuff is very easy to do.
if you need any help, PM me, im right in MA and willing to help if you need it. =)

Any time i hear tune up i think of...
timing belt
idler pulley
checking timing
cap
rotor
plugs
wires
air filter
oil filter
oil change
fuel filter
injector cleaner
a good air filter and better than stock exhaust and making sure your timing is where it is supposed to be can help your gas milage!
