to turbo a 3sge smarter or no - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #35078 17 posts Started by CelicaDrifter
i was looking around and it looks like if i buy a 3sge and turbo that it iwll be cheaper because if i buy a 3sgte im gonna make it a front mount intercooler and change the piping anyway im gonna change the bov and changer the turbo manifold so i think its smarter the only extra thing i have to buy is a turbo and im set since the 3sge is 500 bux and the 3sgte is 1400 i think its way smarter what do you guys say??
not at all.
youll have to buy ALOT more than a turbo for the 3sge.
if you want a reliable turbo engine from the start, your best bet is 3sgTe.

word. u cant just buy a 3sge and turbo it. things need to be done to the motor so it can handle boost and run properly with boost. just get a 3sgte

The compression is too high on a 3sge to just slap a turbo on.
If you got the money to spend, then do it. It's been done before many times even with stock internals. But I wouldn't know if a boosted 3S-GE will be cheaper than a 3S-GTE.
there are 2 turbo kits set-up for the 3s-ge from top fuel including EVERYTHING and the kit's are bolt's on and you dont have to open the machine and change the internal parts and the 2 kit is up too 400hp if i'm not wrong!!!!!
Turbocharge the damn thing and stop asking questions
^^ smartest thing ever said
Its not cheaper.

You need to get low compression pistons (3s-ge = 1:10,5 3s-gte= 1:8,5)
Stock ECU wont work, maybe with a piggyback or a standalone like megasquirt or AEM (major $$$)

Just to be short. A 3s-gte will be a lot cheaper and gives you the garantee it works. Because its made for it. I was thinking about turboing my 3s-ge but instead i got a ST205 frontcut. Saves me a lot of work and money.
BTW Stock st205 intercooler is very good in comparison to a 185 air-air.

JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
maikl, can you plz post the link to top fuel...

I want you to keep in mind that maikl is talking about the newer beams 3sges.
3sge then turbo.. not smart. Even if you go the turbo on there. I highly doubt you can run large amounts of boost. the 3sge is a really high compression motor. Its only fun when your boosting up to 20psi and it feels like your car is going to blow up biggrin.gif

BANNED!
I'll wait and see the results of this project, but damn i'd like to have a little more power. well maybe i'll just settle for one of these ...... maybe not.... rolleyes.gif
no i am talking for the 1994 3s-ge untill the 12/97 models i'll try to find the ling and post it...
I'm running a turbo'd 3rd gen 3SGE - but I'm using the turbo's pistons, so its essentially a 3SGTE. The 3SGE ECU will allow you to run low boost levels without issues.

If your planning on serious modifications, then the 3SGE can be a better route to go. Why spend $2500 on a 3rd gen 3SGTE if you plan on swapping with forged pistons, bigger injectors and bigger turbo kit? I bought a 3SGE partial clip for $900 from Jarco.

Not trying to be a jerk, but thats how stuff gets blown up.

i know that running unsafe boost can ruin an engine, but i was talking about the idea to shut up and do it so as to shut everyone else up
