so today, i called a few places about getting some sub boxes, just because i heard it was easy to mess up ported boxes, so anyway, this one place that i called, i have called before, a month ago say, the quote was $250 canadian for a box for my 2 alpine type r 10" ported. today, it was frickin $400. what the hell, so basically ive decided to try to build my own i could even mess up a few times and not pay that much damn money. BAH, had to vent, haha thanks guys

Boxes are easy. Use MDF, good wood glue, good screws (every 1 - 1.5"). The "tuning" is the funky part... where to put the tube and how deep. This depends on where you want the bass to hit the most. I prefer sealed boxes because the range of the bass is more linear. A ported box will be tuned to a certain frequency - it'll hit all frequences the speaker is designed for, but it will be most efficient at a certain small range (and therefore compairatively less efficient at the other ranges - which is the part I don't like). So... figure out what range you want to run at, and look up on the internet how long your tube needs to be, and where it needs to be in the box.

i used fiberglass and resin to seal mine. i wouldnt recomend the glass, but the resin i WOULD reccomend. def look on the net for a calculator. i used it when i made my old box and it wwas great. u have to put in size, freq. cu. ft. required and some other things and it will calculate the dimensions for a ported or sealed box. then afterwards u can change one of the dimensions for a slanted face or something like that.and get MDF not that sheap **** that they try to sell you premade. u can almost flake that stuff off where MDF you will be lucky if you don't break your hanrd if you punch it
