poll on dragon emblems - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #3529 24 posts Started by boosted_K2
Ok heres the deal, the topic has come up again and the progress on our dragon emblems has come to a point where we need to make the decision. Basically we cannot find a company who will chrome plate plastics. there are 2 other routes we are thinking about, but are open to any other ideas. It goes like this:
A) we can get them chrome plated still... however, the emblems would need to be made of brass for the plating to adhere and not melt the piece.
PRO: we still have them chrome plated
CON: its going to bump the price to approximatly 45 bucks an emblem >frown.gif>
B) we can continue with using the hi-temp plastic as planned, but they will need to be spray painted, either by me, or by you, your choice.
PRO: Keeps cost low and still good quality product
CON: the emblem is spray painted, and like the painted taillights and engine pieces, MAY need to be repainted once and a while.
C) keep waiting and come up with another idea.

I say we do #C. >biggrin.gif>
Most of us can get the piece painted with auto paint anyways. That way it won't fade or anything.
Plus i wouldn't mind having to repaint if i had to.

I gotta say, it seems like it would be a bitch to paint it again. If you're gonna do something, do it right. I'd buy one for $40ish I suppose.
I don't mind the Hi-temp plastic option - though I'd prefer it painted (silver) for me, since my painting skills are, well, let's just say I still have trouble colouring inside the lines >smile.gif>

The main reason I voted for plastic was I'm sure these things are going to look awesome, and I'm worried that they may go missing when I occassionally have to park in questionable areas. I'd rather not be replacing a $NZ90 emblem too often - plastic painted with, say a metallic silver paint, should still look good and be more affordable.

Just my 2 cents, I'll be buying one regardless >smile.gif>
i voted for the brass ones.
Doesn't really matter to me which option ends up happening...I'll be wanting one regardless. Thanks!
I want the chrome, if I dont put in on my car I'll wear it around my neck like mr T. >redface.gif>
hey, can you get the japanese characters made for celica? chrome plated? I can give you hiragana and katakana characters spellings, If there is a japanese kanji for celica that would be even better

I like something out of metal. I hate plastic, and $45 ain't that bad for something cool. I'm paying $50 to get the dragon embroidered on my center divider (not to mention the cost of reupholstering), so it seems reasonable to me. I'd pay it.

I vote for C. Why can't it be made out of aluminum or such and we could get it powder-coated or anodized or something like that. (I think those are the terms, feel free to correct me if you want, Homies.)

the aluminum will corrode, and annodizing or powdercoating will be just about the same price as chroming.

there is no kanji for celica. At least thats what my japanese prof said.

Celica is a spanish word. I forget what it means... and kanji and katakana seems so Hondaish. I saw one that once read like "Big Gun" or something to that effect.

it has dual meanings: in spanish it stands for "heavenly" or "cellestial", while in one of the eastern cultures it is a mythical person who rides a nortic dragon, hence, the dragon emblems!!

$45+ for an emblem i will most likly paint....... seems dumb. kyrlon plastic paint will be very good, and long lasting. plus cheaper. >wink.gif>

$45? that gonna cost me like close to $70 Australian! ill be a cheap ass and vote the plastic, whats wrong with spraying the badge urself? and wouldnt it be easier to fabricate as well?
all would be easy to make, my grandpa is coming down today, so ill talk to him about it more. i'll try to push making molds for doing both DIY plastic AND brass, so you will have a final choice.

alright heres the deal! we are able to do both plastic or chromed brass, it will be your choice. Plastics will be APPROX. 20-25 + shipping. Chromed brass will be APPROX. $45 + shipping. we are not taking orders yet, i have a black painted prototype and a silver painted prototype (not the same plastic we will be using) ill post the pics of them later. in approx. 2 weeks we will have examples of both the chrome plated and the painted versions. At that point i will begin taking orders.

In other news the original mold is set for the rear extensions, but the part hasnt been fitted yet, it should be about 2 weeks untill i get them fitted.

Sweet! I'm still going to try to mold the plastic one to the rear of my car though... >smile.gif>

yea, im real excited about these things! another cool thing with the plastic ones is you can detail paint them personally to your specific color scheme, im also going to screw around with cutting the backround out, detail painting, doing touch up stuff, making some of these prototypes really wicked! you can also have the option of having one sent to you "in white" meaning just the plastic unpainted, or customized (by me >biggrin.gif> ) however you want it. i havent decided about the cost of customizing or anything ill try to do it for free, it just all depends on how time consuming the designs and stuff are, most id charge customizing is like 5 bucks, if i do at all... just thinking out loud. >smile.gif>

Yes, I would take a bare plastic one. Cut out the background and chrome that bad boy!
